At last a grown up, proper drama. excellent performances, no messing about and a sizzling set up for part two, can't wait.

makes U Be Dead look like playschool.

Yep agree I thought it was good, don't normally watch much drama on ITV but I enjoyed watching this. Definitely much better than 'U Be Dead'. Preview of next weeks episode looks good.

Agreed, a very good drama on ITV for a change, I thought the acting was excellent, Trevor Eve in particular. Really looking forward to part 2 next Monday.

Is this a remake of the old 1970's TV series of the same name?

My Mum used to watch it and I vaguely remember catching a couple of episodes while playing with my Stylophone! smile

It is indeed yet another re-make. The original series is based on a book from the late 60's or early 70's as i recall.

It was an awfully good first episode, and totally whets the appetite for the next one.

Maybe, just maybe, Trevor Eve will lose the Shoestring monkey from his back after this hehe

(I do like Eve as an actor, BTW. Very accomplished)

Yes I remember watching her in that centuries ago with my parents and feeling very awkward.

Anyone see the ending today? Got to say one of the best dramas I've seen in a while, very well performed and moving. Sad story though.

yes an excellent series, although perhaps 10 minutes too long...

I thought it should have ended with the death / birth...

towering from Eve who made you root for him even though he had done terrible things...

The original was FAR better (IMHO). Susan Penhaligon's 'Pru' cloud9 helped me through adolescence and Frank Finlay never did anything better!

If you liked this remake you need to get the original series if it's on DVD*

EDIT: *Amazon is releasing it on October 10
