Where can I get silver no. plate digits?

I can buy a number plate no problem with the raised silver digits - ala 1960s - but can't find anywhere who will sell me the individual digits ... a 20" no. plate is no good for me - needs to be a US size. And I can't anywhere that will do the US size with the silver digits so will make my own plates up (if I had the digits!)
1960s Lotus Europas and the like often had the single digits on a a mesh grille under the bumper so you must be able to get them somewhere ...
SOMEONE must supply these number plate makers with the digits - but who?
