Best girls car for £5k?

So the Mrs is looking to buy her own car rather than using mine all the time. She has 5k to spend, is very fussy and has lots of requirements:

• Ideally it should be Fiesta sized
• Engine not too big as she only has 2 years driving experience and insurance is still a killer
• Nothing French or from the VAG range
• Must be less than 4 years old
• Must be petrol

Current favourites are a Fiesta Zetec-S but I’m looking into other possible alternatives such as a Yaris? Jazz? Anything else we I should consider?

Suzuki Swift 1.5.

My mum has one and its a great little car, I borrowed it for a week a while ago and it was fairly nippy and fun to throw around.

My sister is now looking at getting one for her first car because she loves it so much.

She does actually like Swifts and I forgot about those, she would be pretty chuffed if she could pick up a sport model but I think they would be over budget. The 1.5 might be worth a look.

Mazda 3 is possibly a little too big as she is wanting something a bit smaller with 3 doors.

I know what you’re saying and fully agree, I think it's a high maintenance women thing.

She did initially want a new shape Fiesta but spunking out £10k+ on a shopping trolley would see me forging her signature on the divorce papers.

lol I did suggest a Racing Puma and she seemed quite keen on the idea after seeing one in a car park (they look fantastic don’t they?!) but the insurance is ridiculously high.

What about a late model regular puma, well underbudget and still very cheap to run and brilliant fun to drive.

I guess this does kinda reinforce the idea that the most girly car is a hatchback.... lol

Yeah they are a great car for the money I will be keeping mine for many years to come but she wants something different. I can't really blame her as she has never owned her own car and has just used my car as I use my bike everyday come rain or shine, but not anymore.
