Volkswagens with different-coloured wheels?

Folks,

Twice in the last few weeks I have spotted Volkswagens with different-coloured alloy wheels. I see an R-plate Passat estate on the way to work most morning (that is so low it must scrape the ground over potholes etc) that has blue wheels on the front and red wheels on the rear.

I also seen a low-rider Polo several weeks ago with some sort of orange/green alloy combo.

Is this some new fad in the 'veedub scene'? Both these cars were obviously cared for, not old bangers with scrapyard-sourced wheels.

Is there any particular reason behind this?

Yep, veedub. Had to check your location as last week I saw a polo, lowered to the floor, with orange/blue( or green can't remember) porsche wheels on it.
Complete with fully rusted bonnet, some stickers on the back, and a gimp driving!

My post wasn't actually a criticism (although the different coloured wheels aren't something I think are nice) - I just wondered if anyone else had experienced Volkswagens in their area with disimilar wheels and if there was any reasoning behind this.

I love bashing vag though, never involves thread though. You strange thing.

I know of some people that do it, not with VWs, but on track cars.

It's so they know which set has most recently been used on a given axle, and to keep them in pairs, so they can rotate them and get more even wear.

Don't know why you would on a road car though.

I still cannot believe that this is a international thing. I see that everyday in New England.

Rust (or effect), slammed, audi/porsche/different color wheels.

Amazing how this is a international movement and just how much I'm not going to do it to my R32!

The Passat was spotted this morning again, it now has vinyl down both sides with a wood grain pattern on it. The wheels I could just about pass off as being individual, but the wood grain vinyl looks absolutely horrible.
