Firewall question...LS7

Hi
Just how much space is there between the engine and the firewall? I am hoping to install the engine before fitting the body and will make up an aluminium plate to hold all of the bits. Once the body is fitted, I would then like to put this aluminium plate on top of the body as everything will already be pre-drilled / mounted, and it is an extra layer of insulation....
Another question is, what happens in the inside of the car with respect to the firewall? I take it that the body/firewall goes on the outside and then what goes on the inside? carpet? another panel?

This is the way I have gone for better or worse - for better at the moment - we will see if there are any issues very shortly, perhaps one or two challenges...but I don't expect any show-stoppers.
My opinion anyway!
