I'm going to get some people round to quote but always good to get some ph opinions ...

The house I've just bought has a monstrosity of a fireplace in the lounge, which is going to go eventually. However this isn't a priority as it is just unpleasant to look at. The problem is that the section of chimney in the loft has been removed, leaving the last 18" or so with the pots on the roof in place, supported only by a few upright timbers between the inside of the roof and one of the internal walls. Further the pots are still open so when it rains outside it also rains in the loft(!)

So I want to do something about this and get the remainder of the chimney removed and actual roof put in its place. Any ideas as to what sort of money I'm looking at?

PS - anyone know a good builder in the North Bristle / South Gloucestershire area? I'm lacking personal recommendations and currently looking at hitting the yellow pages.

Check first if you are in a Conservation Area or your building is Listed before removing chimneys. If you are you will need Listed Building Consent
