On Tuesday we had an email at work saying that if we wished we could view the Battle of Britain 70th Anniversary Air Display from the roof top terrace in the office in Guernsey on Thursday.

The display included the Spitfire, Hurricane and Lancaster, modern aircraft such as the F-16 Typhoon and display groups including the Wing Walkers, The Blades and culminated with the Red Arrows.

It would be the first time that a Lancaster bomber had taken part in the display since 2004.

woohoo I thought excellent photo opportunity to practise - then remembered that my camera is at home, in Kenilworth frown

I went up to the roof top anyway, and watched with fascination (and some frustration at trying to get picture on my iPhone) the totally awesome displays smile

The Blades commenced, and I gave up. Walked into town and bought a Canon PowerShot biggrin The photos below are the ones I managed to get of the Red Arrows when I got back... and had charged it for 15 minutes. Not too bad for a first go with a new camera wink Although I have to say the shutter lag is more than a bit diabolical! Plus, as it was the first time I'd seen the perform for about 10 years, I got a little distracted with actually watching them wink

Hope you enjoy!

Full set here - includes some deliberately 'arty' shots wink
