DDMC Invitation
Discussion
I have it on very good authority that any TVR racers interested in taking part in the Northern Sports and Saloon Car Championship in 2011 will be made very welcome.
Having competed in it in 2009 it’s a very well organised and participated in series with very full grids and a wide selection of interesting machinery. There is without doubt competition for Tuscan through to Tasmins, oh and its cheaper than current costs too. There is no stipulation for tyres which would free up drivers to approach who they want and possibly get themselves ‘a deal’.
I know of quite a few drivers interested in this and I’m attending a drivers meeting on the 26th September. Anyone interested is welcome to join me or alternatively if you have any questions let me know and I can raise them in the meeting.

The NSSCC is a great championship with full grids and a great bunch of people much like the Challenge but cheaper. Its also a lot more convenient for me so I'll be running my car next year either in class A1 (slick tyres unrestricted) or class B with R888's - haven't decided yet.
Look forward to seeing you out there !

This is a championship that we have competed in several times over the years and is something we will definitely be looking at for next season as a team. Croft is an awesome circuit and with the restrictions imposed last year makes the DDMC championship one of the only ways to race on it. I do believe they also go to Knockhill and hopefully they may include Anglesey for next year. See you there up there Phil.

Hmmmmm........ so in posting the advertisement for the DDMC here, is there some kind of hidden agenda going on? I didn't think you had many personal issues with the Challenge Phil? For me the cost differential is negligible in the grand scheme of things. A Tasmin such as mine would realistically be in class B of the DDMC running on 1A or 1B tyres. In 2010 there were only 4 cars running in that class so its not going to persuade me to leave the Challenge which has had a similar number. If I'm still racing next year it'll be in the challenge.
Picking up on Phil's and Dave's latter threads, there are many reasons why TVR racers go elsewhere - geography (north/south divide generally), costs driver/race team development and personal preferences.
However the bottom line is that the Challenge needs more participants if it is to survive. If we do not get enough drivers coming in particularly from the TVRCC side relative to the vast number of owners and indeed members, then the few coming in 'fresh' like me will make little impact on our survival chances.

Out of interest, what is the registration fee for the Challenge and race entry fees ?
The reasons I'm favouring the NSSCC are largely based on geography and also cost. The NSSCC does not require a data logger which is not an insignificant cost for an unsponsored privateer like myself. Don't get me wrong, the Challenge is far from being big budget racing but I just like the NSSCC flexible classification structure that avoids the cost of a datalogger which may mean the difference between racing or not.
But I reserve the right to change my mind because I've been a fan of the Tuscan Challenge since it started and I would love to be a part of it, if it was reasonable for me to do so.

You have always been able to run without a logger if you have a v6 (class C), or if your ok running in class A. I think for the £500 for a datalogger (cheaper if you get one second hand) is well worth the money though for the extra info you can get from it. (you can always resell it and get most of your money back)The reasons I'm favouring the NSSCC are largely based on geography and also cost. I think the Average race fee's for 2 x 20 mins race and 20 min qualify have been £320-£340
I think the Challenge free's was about £180.
I think the only way another series will save you money is if they are running a road tyre.

We have up here one of the old Turbo Tasmin racers (Pat’s old car). Once it’s finished having a new front end, the owner will be out in the DDMC. I gave him the info on that meeting as he intends to come along to meet up to obtain information. We also have a V6 Tasmin about ready to go, so if anyone wants to rent it let me know.Having competed in it in 2009 it’s a very well organised and participated in series with very full grids and a wide selection of interesting machinery. Speaking as a sponsor, the attraction of the DDMC and its full grids is that it’s far more likely to attract spectators; hopefully TVR driving ones. Many people on here forget that the paying public want to see a full day’s exiting racing for their money. Empty grids are no attraction to get people out of bed. These people in the main are sports car enthusiasts and come to see sports cars racing. The various TVR specialists in the north are far more likely to part with their money if the people who come along to watch are potential customers.
If this became the case it would be a lot easier for drivers to gain sponsorship in one form or another to subsidise their racing. I personally know several TVR businesses that if a decent interest was shown would put their hand in their pocket. I speak with TVR drivers every day and I can tell you with only a few exceptions most have no interest in going to watch the racing as it is at the moment.
If this can be changed, funding the event would become more attractive to potential sponsors, which will hopefully increase driver numbers. As for the TV coverage issue, I would forget about the idea completely; the money that it costs could be put to far better uses in other areas.
Richard
I really think that we could have a good TVR series if everyone joined in and raced in the Challenge. There appear to be too may splinter groups and it would be nice if we could all get together rather than seemingly try to break up what could be a very good National Championship. The DDMC costs when considering track time are no lower and I would come north for a dedicated race at Croft which I have campaigned for for some time.
Reading the regulations, a Tuscan Challenge car isn't eligible in any event. It was never a road car.

Whilst the TVR challenge grid numbers are not as high as they could be, they are not in crisis as some would suggest, and they are headed in the right direction. There are also new cars in the offing..
Times are hard at the moment and motor racing isnt imune from that.
If we all pull together we can make a fantastic series.
There are issues that need resolving certainly as with most championships, but there are also people working very very hard to move things forward.
The series has actually been very good at responding to requests..
the drivers wanted all double headers, we've got all double headers.
fewer races were asked for , so we got 6 events.
I too would love to go back to croft as its a fantastic circuit, but I'd prefer to do it as Part of the TVR Challenge.
Most of us if not all race TVR's because we are TVR enthusiasts. so the best way to race them is together.. The combined races at the begining of the year highlighted what happens, when you race with other marques that have little respect for the marque, and actually enjoy punting them off.
I think Richard Thorpes comments as a sponsor are very interesting, and maybe we should be directing our series sponsorship efforts to catering for these sponsor needs, and I understand Mal is talking to other sponsors on this.
Im looking to get the grass roots TVRCC members more involved and looking at how we can encourage them. THE TVRCC are well behind the Series and indeed were the biggest single sponsor of the series this year.
I've had lots of conversations over the last couple of weeks, with various people and some things are resolvable some maybe not. But for the moment my focus is to do all I can to provide a place for TVR racing, and currently thats in the TVR Challenge.
Cheers
