OK so what I thought would be an easy job has turned out not to be. After completing the job I notice the fresh oil weeping from the drain plug. I thought I would tweak it up a bit but now seem to have threaded something. Having tried plug in the drain socket it is still threaded. This leads me to think I have thread the socket and need to change the diff plate, is it likely I'm right or any other ideas?

Did you use any washers?

You should have bought a couple of crush washers from your local ScoobyStealer or motor factors. Same sort of crush washer you use with a sump plug when doing an engine oil change.

If you have threaded the bolt you can always get another, not a problem, however if you have threaded the Diff cover then you will either have to get hole re-threaded and get a bigger bolt, or replace the diff plate if you can get one cheap enough.

You might be better getting a 2nd hand diff for not a lot and just swapping plates or diffs if it's any good. Just make sure if you swap plates you put the plate back properly so it makes a good seal.

I recommend Threebond smile
