Forester 2.5 xt coming. PPP worth having?
Discussion
I bought an 07 plate XTen PPP at the start of the year and I absolutely love it. The engine pulls very strongly from just over 2000rpm and is very smooth compared to my old Classic Scooby, it's stupidly quick from a standing start.
The only thing I would say is that the standard setup is a little too biased towards understeer, with this in mind I'm considering having a Whiteline 20mm rear anti roll bar fitted. I'll see how that goes, it's basically the same rear ARB as the Forester STi ...
It's also just been to B&Q and did a very good job transporting the bedding plants home.
Buy one.

Also worth a look on the subaru forester forums, I tend to hang around the Europe section.

Hello
Fine choice of car
Get the anti-roll bar 2nd hand from ebay or Scoobynet (The Impreza one fits) mine was £15. If you go bigger than the 20mm you may need to uprate the rollbar mounting brackets and drop links. A few XT's have snapped the brackets with whitline roll bars.
Thank you. Thats interesting. My scoob dealer has just suggested a whitline actually so will take up with them. Looking forward to the car hugely. My outback 3r was good but i did feel I was lacking something a bit more special.Fine choice of car

The Whiteline rear ARB now comes supplied with brackets to strengthen the existing mounting brackets, they look like a right angle plate a that bolts around the suspension arm with a u-clamp.
Have you actually got a specific car on order or are you down for the next 2.5XT that comes in?

Car is all sorted thanks, its a 2.5 xten, red with black leather with c. 20k on the clock. Just tying up the mods now before agreeing delivery and swap with outback. Have you actually got a specific car on order or are you down for the next 2.5XT that comes in?

I have a 2.5 XT added a white line ARB - one of the best bolt on bits you can add to the car, I strengthened the link brackets though.
Also alot of good info on the forester forum
Its a shame that there not offereing the 2.5 anymore in the new forester
Steve
yes, it is a shame - at least Ive got a few years until I could afford a new one with a turbo. Saw very first impreza sti saloon in UK today - very nice in the flesh too (sorry no photo). If they can do that (which they never said they would) I suppose there is hope. Also alot of good info on the forester forum

chatted to my dealer today (cross roads in midlands) - apparently the breakages are to do with the ARB fitted and then car still used in "full" off road conditions which of course negates the reason to have them in the first place.
all the failures i have heard of from the Forester board have been from cars used on road (driven hard though). If you have the uprated brackets you should be fine. Thanks for all your help gents. Did not see this coming but I now have an 08 sti on the way instead; a standard sti worked out easier to insure and finance than the fos with the ppp for me. I'll be seeing how practical it is over the next few months; but then if practicality was the only reason for buying a car....
