Sender unit - What is it??

Guys
Have a serp 500 with air con and power steering. I have an oil leak coming from some kind of sender unit that is located front driver side behind the belt tension directly above the oil pump but below the front exhaust manifold bolt. The oil pressure sensor is on the bottom of the engine - any ideas what it is before I try sorting the leak?
