Eid.....Assault?

As most of you know, Birmingham is a pretty culturally diverse area. Some areas are almost 'overrun' with a certain ethnic demographic.

Returned to my car after a night out and attempted to drive out of the large car park where the car was situated. Due to the nature of the area I was in, there was a alot of police and security presence and so I was made to take a little detour to the exit.

Along the way I encountered a group of lads who seemed to take offence to me driving past them. I voiced my opinions at which point they surrounded my car. The drivers side window was open, so one of the group decided to offer me out of the car. Again I voiced my opinions at which point he attempted to remove me from the car.

All I wanted to do was go home so I told him to go and bother somebody else. This seemed to enrage the guy as he pulled upon my seatbelt and told me to get out of the car. In all honesty I'm not a fan of street fighting and so told him to just hit me and get on with. He didn't and just proceeded to tug at my persons.

Said lad thought it a good idea to then reach for my keys and attempt to remove them from the running vehicle. He managed to switch the ignition off before I grabbed his hands.

At this point security ran at the car and performed a WWE style take down on both lads by the drivers side window. Very amusing it was, especially when a nearby police officer ran over with his ASP ready.

I watched the commotion for a while before driving home.

I'm not really the kind of person who is easily intimidated so the event didnt bother me as such. What did bother me is the fact that this switched off my ignition and tried to remove the keys! The car had only been running for about 30 seconds FFS after standing for hours.

Isn't this assault? Should I have pressed charges? Where do people get off on this st?

I'm quite proud of myself for not getting out of the car, but in all honesty, a criminal record is the last thing I need.

EID shouldn't cause any trouble at all. It's a celebration that marks the ending of Ramadan (period of fasting).

Correct in theory.

The venue in question has had 24 hour security since Friday mroning purely in anticipation of this event. All cars coming into the car parked are screened. Apparently groups of lads are turned away, I'm guessing because of situations like the one I have posted about.

Celebration my arse. Wannabe rude boys showing off in cars, harrasing women and generally causing trouble sounds more like it.

These two parts need some explaining. The first part seems like they called you a wker, or something along those lines, for driving past them and you decided the best course of action was to stop and throw insults at them.

Then, after the police and security came to save your arse from a beating you just drove off. Leaving the police with nobody who could press charges, so they are probably in the process of letting the scrotes go as we speak.

And finally, whats any of this got to do with Eid and Birmingham's various communities?

Firstly, I stopped to ask them what there problem was.

Secondly I drove off because pressing charges was the last thing on my mind until I got home and thought about it. Then in true PH fashion I posted a thread about it.

To address your final point, purely setting the scene. If it had happened at a football game full of 'skinheads' I would have said so too.

Tis sad indeed. I have a number of Muslim mates and they are sound. Unfortunately it's the c0cks that spoil things for the majority as most celebrate in a positive manner I'm sure (don't know about Birmingham etc. though as my mates live down south)

Making sweeping generalisations about skins too.

Genuine skinheads have no racist motives; unfortunately the movement was hijacked by the far right in the 80's, and that is what has given us such a bad press in the last 30 years.

The original skins were black Jamaicans, the first British skins were their mates who loved the music and the dance scene (and possibly the girls...).

Thankfully, there is a genuine resurgance of the original ideals of the movement.
