A friend has a Rover V8 he wants to mate to a Type 9 gearbox.

It's from a diesel Sierra, which, I think, has a longer drive shaft.
It has a BW65 bellhousing, and a Magnum adapter plate.

What he needs to know is what other components to use. Magnum has changed hands, and they can't offer any guidance, so could anyone confirm which bits need to come from which cars? We can sort of guess what's needed, but it'd be good to hear from anyone who's done similar, and any pitfalls that might happen.

Thanks.

It's quite a small gearbox to mate to a Rover V8 (due to the torque)
most people use the stronger T5 or LT77 or R380

If you get no joy here getting information here, you could try www.v8forum.co.uk

or speak to some of the V8 specialist suppliers like Rimmer brothers 01522 568000 or www.realsteel.co.uk/

One pitfall would be the possibility of ending up with a cast iron box full of broken gears unless this is a very lightweight car (and a low spec RV8).

If it's a case of having to use the Type 9 due to space restrictions, have a look at the upgrades that TranX, and I daresay others, do for that gearbox.

Thanks for the replies. It's a fairly light weight car, and a low power V8, as the idea is to try a few races in the 750MC Kit Car Class, which limits the options a fair bit.

I'm guessing that it needs a V8 cover plate, and a Ford friction plate, but I'm not sure about the bearing. I'll have a look at the links.

Many thanks.
