Memory Card problem...
Discussion
My 16GB SanDisk Class 4 has suddenly stopped working in my 450D.
When I turn it on it says "Memory Card not formatted, format it in the device".
If I try to format it it just stays like this forever, progress bar doesn't change/move at all:

Card works fine in my PC, I tried quick format - OK, normal format - OK. Just it doesn't work in my 450D when other cards work perfectly fine.
It's an original Sandisk, no chinese fake.
Any advice??

Throw it out and buy another one, or claim under warranty.
I'd never trust it to store valuable images again!
You're a "glass half empty" kind of guy, aren't you? I'd never trust it to store valuable images again!

I haven't lost any images, plus it works fine in the PC. I'm playing with Panasonic SD formatter now, we shall see...
Update: No, still nothing. But I've just checked and it works perfectly fine in my Panasonic FT2.
WTF???

They're a few quid from 7dayshop. Why risk it?

As yourself, what value do you place on your photos?

No idea if this is relevant but someone I was talking to a few weeks ago said they had found that swapping cards between different manufacturer's bodies had proved troublesome. No idea if this is at all relevant to the situation here but I thought I would mention it.
I think the value of the card may be a secondary issue here. More important to try to understand what has happended and why and maybe even consider that there is a camera related problem to resolve. I would want to understand the problem before simply giving up on the card. It could be worth trying it in another Canon body just in case it is some sort of internal data that the body expects to see and isn't seeing it for some reason.
I assume you have run some web searches and checked the SanDisk site without any luck?

Another thought - have you checked the pins in the CF slot?
I know you mentioned in the first post that other cards are working fine in the same body but it may still be worth a visual check if you have not done one. Bent or, perhaps more likely, 'short' pins would be worth looking for.
A long shot but you never know ....

Thank you!
That's where I'm coming from. 1) It's an SD, not a CF, the slot is so small that I can't see anything in it.
2) I haven't moved it or used it with different bodies
3) I've tried this card in different camera - works fine, I've tried different cards in this body - works fine.
I've tried everything I could think of (and read here) and it just puzzles me.
Oh well, I'll have to buy a new one. I'll use this one to transfer files between laptops and in a P&S camera. Thank you anyway!
You could try reformatting the card using the Panasonic SD card utility.

Whoops, forgot the 450D is SD. Oh well, I'll have to buy a new one. I'll use this one to transfer files between laptops and in a P&S camera. Thank you anyway!
I've swapped SD cards between a number of cemeras and never had a problem so far. However I do try to keep the cards I have associated with a single manufacturer - just in case.
For an SD card I would doubt there is a 'pin' problem though you could just check for wear marks on the cards you use and see if they are consistent. Also that there are no foriegn bodies floating around in the slot and that the contact strips on the card look like the other cards - no indented strips for example.
Then there's the stupid stuff that can't possibly be the cause .... the card's not locked, the lock switch isn't somehow being half activated when the card is inserted in THAT camera but not the others (I'm assuming that each camera's response to a 'lock' would be the same - it may not be ...) and so on.
It seems totally illogical that the thing only fails in one camera.
