Can you lose your ncb without claiming?
Discussion
Basically, I got my renewal for my insurance today. I only drive a vectra oil burner and was paying about about £92 a month. My renewal price today was £233!!!
The price has risen (I think) because my ncb has gone down to zero. I should Now have 1 ncb.
I had a bump about 7 months ago and notified my insurance as required. Neither me or the other driver sustained damage and he has never put in an official claim. I only told my insurance as it was my fault and though he might claim!
Now, is it right that they have disallowed me my first ncb even though the other party has never claimed nor have I. Infact, my insurance is all managed online and the claims section where I added the claim says it's not even approved. It was over 7 months ago!!
I have emailed them but thought someone here mint be able to know as I cannot afford the price hike.

It is also worth noting that you have up to 3 years to claim on an accident (so I was told by my insurance after I had the same thing happen to me). So even though there was no claim at the time, it will stay pending.
Bugger. I'll shop around and see if I can better the renewal then!RacingPete said:

3 year imitaation on injury claims.6 years for property.
OP - you can't "close the claim off", it's down to the other side who were not at fault not to claim within the 6 year period.
The price rise may simply be down to the rate at which premiums are rising and you finding yourself in a higher risk group.

When I get a quote from another company do I need to say I've had a claim then and state that it was at fault etc?

Your insurer can, depends on circumstances. Just close the claim on the system. Or they may allow NCD and keep some sort of reserve. What are you after, reduction in re-open rates or reduction in reserves.Noger said:

Should have not said anything to your insurance company about the "incident"......that as others have said will put up the renewal....sharks..
A friend of mine did what you did, was honest and got caned for insurance after.....isn't it a wonder folks knock motors and deny it....or drive away, like in car parks
I am not a fan of Insurance companies....never had a problem at all.....BUT car insurance is highway robbery.....mine still goes up every year the same....and I have never claimed....
I cant get the 90% AXA advertised policy as I have a Jap import, the most I get is 75%...and have had that since 1999 when it first came about....

Much better to stay quiet and then get fully shafted by failing to declare.A friend of mine did what you did, was honest and got caned for insurance after.....isn't it a wonder folks knock motors and deny it....or drive away, like in car parks

As for Highway Robbery, it is, but it's the insurers who are getting robbed paying out c£1.15 for every £1 received in premium income. For that you can thank all the credit hire, no win no fee solicitors and people not reporting claims pushing up the cost.

Sorry, read it as "Can you lose your nob" and thought jeez, wouldnt be on PH if that happened.
Glad it wasn't just me who thought this
5 or 6 years ago, I had a bump and advised my insurance company (third party at fault). I didn't claim anything as the damage to my car was only £70 and I thought it wasn't worth the hassle, especially as my excess was a few hundred quid. Anyway the insurance rose by over £100 as a result of this. Sure that was Admiral...
