What kind of MPG/range do you guys tend to get on a trackday, and how does it vary between different engine tunes? We are more interested in the LS7 engined cars, but any information would be greatly appreciated. I ask as we are just sorting out the engine spec for our car which we are intending to run in the Britcar next year, and I am wondering if we will have to fit bigger fuel cells/tanks (and where to fit them is another issue altogether!), as clearly excessive pit stops could severely hamper our race performance.

I think this is very difficult to answer, as some are using stock GM ECU and some motorsport ECU and depending on the fule map, the consumption can vary
a lot. I myself when I drive the car hard am consuming 20-25 liter/100km. I can send you my fuel map table and you can have a look yourself.

Blimey - you must really be driving it hard - I reckon that's between 11 and 14 mpg !!

yes I do, country roads mainly for fun, cannot help myself but I like the acceleration !
On the highway I reached 14-15 liters per 100km.

Only had an SBC with a blower, but we got between 2 and 5 mpg on track wobble often got 17-18 on the road though.

That's quite the numbers I observed.
Highway (~3000 RPM 6th gear): ~15 liters per 100km.
Track: lets say at least 20-25 smile

Hi Jonathan
Would be great to see you in Britcar although you won't get away with your GTR 700 due to the power to weight regulations. I tried to enter in 2007 & 2008 but was told at the last minute that the Ultima wouldn't be allowed but could race in Britsports against the dwindling field of Prototypes. Britsports collapsed in 2008 so they reviewed the regulations for Britcar. Prior to this I raced my Ultima in few races including a 50min endurance race. Not knowing my fuel consumption I brimmed the standard tanks and crossed the finish line on fumes. Mine was a fairly standard SBC giving me 311BHP at the wheels running a Demon Carburetor. Your biggest challenge will be Incorporating the Dry Break Fueling system with a 120 litre tank which you will need even with a more fuel efficient LS7.

I am looking forward to seeing it running too!

The fuel economy is one of my major concerns at the moment. We will be ordering teh engine over the next few weeks to install over the following month or so, then get some winter testing/development work in. Looking at the current Britcar regs, we would have to run around 510-520 HP to be at the top end of the power to weight regs (with driveline losses etc as the power is measured at the wheels). We should be able to keep the revs down a touch and have a decent amount of torque so that we preserve the engine as much as possible. Looking at getting the engine in the UK, as AS weren't too helpful when we approached them plus its works out cheaper to get a UK sourced engine.

If the worst comes to the worst and we simply don't get much range out of the car, we will just have to bite the bullet and get some custom tanks made I suppose. Could be painful on the wallet!

why not make the factory ones larger and get rid off the ankle and make them square that would block part of the air inlet,
but I think that could be helped with side scoops. This would probably give you another 20 liters. I understand that the tanks
are hand made so you probably could get the larger one at a small extra cost. The original ones should be easy to sell

Spatz - could well be an option. I was wondering if the tank size was going to be a problem or not but I guess we will just have to suck it and see.
