What the f
king fk is it with the brain dead morons that want to sit alongside you on the motorway.
The last fking place you should be on the motorway is directly alongside someone, or in their blind spot. Yet people seem to be deliberately doing this more and more.
So many examples of this on the motorway this weekend, I will pick out two particularly irritating examples.
Whilst over taking :
Mr BMW 1 series driving his semi melted diesel stbox in the middle lane ( inside lane was clear ) I am slowly gaining on him at around 4mph speed differential on cruise ( my speed 70mph. So I increase speed slightly, pull out to the middle lane, then the outside lane, come along side him, and he promptly matches my speed. I accelerate a little bit more, he matches my speed. He does this stupid game up to 85, where I think, bks to this, slowed down, dropped back behind him, and pulled back into the middle lane. As soon as I do this he drops back down to 65. I do have options, I can have a quick blast past, I can undertake in inside lane, but its still a waste of fuel and it is an unneccesary risk to my licence.
Whilst being overtaken :
Driving along in the inside lane, I am approaching a lorry and need to pull out to overtake soonish. There is a middle lane hog slowly overtaking me. Now what happens 90% of the time is that said middle lane hog will accelerate to the point he is sitting along side me, or directly in my blindspot, and then match my speed so that I cannot now overtake the lorry without slowing down, and then accelerating again. Its a waste of my fuel, its stupid, dangerous tttish driving.
What the fk is going on ? Are the middle lane morons now trying to enforce their stupidity on the rest of us for having the temerity to actually use a motorway properly ?
What really pisses me off is that my options are pretty much limited in avoiding this behaviour without being a tt myself, like pulling out extra early for a lorry so the car behind me is forced to overtake me as well, or using bursts of acceleration to put them quickly behind me.

Had an idiot do this on a D/C.. We're 500meters or so from a slip lane, I can see cars coming down the slip lane and at this rate we're going to meet each other at the end of the slip.

I don't whether people are completely aware or what they are doing - except in the example with the 1 series.
I wonder if cruise control has anything to do with it, especially when it comes to needing to pull out to overtake a lorry - drivers are in their own world in the middle lane cruising along and not aware of the situations arising infront of them.
Fortunately this usually results in others having to drive around their behaviour, but I can see an increase in road accidents coming as more and more people tune out on the motorways.

It does seem to be BMW and VAG cars - but I expect it is purely because the majority of the long distance motorway users drive them. Or they attract the sort of people that have a complex about this sort of thing!
By the way I am 23 and do not use a dual carriageway or motorway for comuting so I happily distance myself from these people!

when someone does this to me, i'm generally in a much faster car, so just boot it past them, then move infront of them and slow down, to about 70ish, then if they try to pass speed up, and play the same back back to them. Doesn't usually take long before they back right off and give in. Teach them a lesson.
Can only do this in a faster car obviously though, which is my excuse for buying a more powerful car.

You should have just carried on in Lane 1 and undertook BMW boy. It's not illegal to undertake as long as you don't change lanes to do it. It's a murky one that though.
If they get a bit funny though, I just ignore it the best I can and try to indicate politely and apply appropriate lane discipline. In my experience, other drivers tend to pick up on what's going on and that the guy is being a plank, and they adopt some lane discipline too - therefore exposing the guy as the pleb he really is.

The BMW driver, like a lot of male BMW drivers, obviously had a small penis - he is probably a very nice person really - but having a small penis is a cruel affliction. So it's not his fault.
The lorry scenario could have been solved with a little more forward planning on your part. You saw the lorry, you saw the MLM - you should have sped up slightly or moved over earlier to get in the middle lane for the overtake.

i'm amazed you can even be bothered, get past and forget about it.when someone does this to me, i'm generally in a much faster car, so just boot it past them, then move infront of them and slow down, to about 60mph, then if they try to pass speed up, and play the same back back to them. I notice this a lot when I drive with cruise control on. People are just incapable of sitting at the same speed for more than 10 seconds.
I wonder if it's some kind of sub-concious process which makes them speed up / slow down to your speed.
Obviously the 1-series driver was just taking the piss. I tend to find a quick burst of acceleration gets rid of them.

Mmmmm...sounds like eratic driving in an attempt to provoke the wrath of the middle laners! ^ I admit that when the traffic is moving quicker I tend to get dragged along with the average road speed as opposed to sitting at 70 - 80 MPH like I normally do - my insurance premium is wallet crushiong as it is!I wonder if it's some kind of sub-concious process which makes them speed up / slow down to your speed.

A pointless and rather stupid game TBH.
Since getting a car with cruise control i have started to realise just how bad people are at maintaining a steady speed on the motorway. Driving along the M4 late the other night i kept finding myself catching up with people in the middle lane, overtaking them then 1/3 mile later they are back in front then slowing down so much so i must have overtaken some cars several times just to have them go past me again.
What is especially irritating is being LHD i have a really wide angle passenger mirror so when people are in the rear quarter panel area of my car i get blinded.

Heading along the Moreton Spur sliproad having been on the M53 approaching the roundabout. Car in front doing the exact same 'keep alongside' car in inside lane and sped up a little, finally passing it and pulling back in. I speed back up again and he matches my speed as I am passing, so I speed up again and we're getting closer and closer to the end of the road and therefore the roundabout.
I need to be in the left lane to go straight on. We're not going too fast as both this chap and the one he was alongside earlier were probably doing 40 on the 70mph stretch...
I drop to third and put some distance between us and pull in, only to get the wker sign and constant main beams. To the best of my driving knowledge, I did nothing wrong. I then had an irrational feeling that I wanted to pull over and smash his face in for being so weird. I didn't.
There's no rational explanation for peoples behaviour on the road and it is completely bizarre!!!!

I had some numpty driving right at my rear 3/4 on the M26 one evening. It was late, the road was virtually deserted, just me in the left lane and numpty-boy in the right lane.
I'm thinking, why doesn't he overtake? Why is he sitting out there?
