One of my "not so great" habits is to put my D40 down on it's back - with the screen down. I do this as I have a wrist strap on the side which has a protrusion at the bottom which means putting it down normally isn't really that stable.

As a direct result, the screen is scratched and is pretty ugly - Hindsight, however, suggests that I should have been using the screen cover that I have, but haven't because it's obtrusive.

How hard is it to replace the screen as I'm pretty sure it's beyond just covering up the scratch?

Think thats a send-off job really. Feel free to have a go, personally I wouldnt.

There's a few reasons why I wouldnt want to put my camera down like that, as you've found out, scratches not only to the screen but getting crap in the buttons and also dust falling onto the sensor

I was afraid of that - it's a hindsight thing really and I'm a bit ticked off at myself for it.

You could always have a go with 'apple sauce'. Not the stuff you have with your roast pork on Sunday... It's a very fine polish that is designed for getting scratches out of MP3 player screens... I managed to get it to work for me on my MP3 player screen, maybe worth a try on the camera?
