Not sure there are any 5-star hotels in Brum but we've stayed at the Radisson, Malmaison and Hotel du Vin before when we've been to concerts at the Symphony Hall and O2 and they are all good 4star standard. Best location is probably the Malmaison for other bars etc but the best service and rooms was the HdV which is at the other end of the town centre in the old Eye hospital. You might also think of an apartment rental - SACO do single nights for about £120 in their executive apartments which are good value, well located in Brindley Place and really nicely finished (but no room service obviously!)

Not sure if it's 5 star but the Hyatt seems all right:

Not stayed but used the valet parking and cigar bar which was good. Very central and you can stumble onto Broad street from there which is good or bad...

The Indian Restaurant behind it (Blue Margo I think it's called is very upmarket and great food.

Not strictly a hotel, but the Rotunda has serviced 5* apartments for about £120 a night depending if they're available.
