Hi

Has anyone fitted a MX5 engine into a Sylva Striker, if so im trying to find out what modifications are needed to the chassis etc to mount the engine and box. Ive stripped down my Striker and removed the crossflow engine and im about to remove the ali panels and bodywork ready to have a full cage welded on.

Thanks

Kyle

Kyle, you might be able to get into contact with Cyana Cars, they did a version of the Phoenix (which is in effect a Striker with a pretty dress on) which was MX5 based. I do not think they sell it anymore, but he may be able to supply bespoke engine mounts / advice! Good luck!!

Also try the JPSC website, if you cannot access it let me know and I will put a post up for you. I know somebody has put the Madza V6 in a Fury, and i recall others have used MX5's.

thanks Lee....

I will try the engine in the chassis tomorrow and i dont think it looks too hard to fabricate, the overall length of the package ie engine and box is a lot longer than the old crossflow 4 speed package so i think im going to have to make a extension on the gear stick to stop the engine sticking out the front of the nose cone!!!

If you could do me a post on jpss forum that would be great, i was going to make my own exhaust manifold but if its already been done that would save me a lot of time etc.

Thanks for your help, much appreciated

it fits, i think a shallow sump may be in order. The Rotrex also fits with very little work, ive removed the aircon compressor and it fits neatly into that space.

Im just fabricating a full cage before i send the chassis off for blasting and coating. I will post some pics if anyone is interested.

I cant wait to drive this little missile in the new year.

Sounds like a nice project. What size blower are you using?

Please do, I've been pondering suitable lumps to replace the crossflow in my Mk2 Striker. A K series was favourite but also wondered about the MX5.

A little update, the cage is nearly there im just waiting for my mate to finish tigging it up for me, the fabricating has taken longer than i thought, ive still got to clearance the tunnel a little for the box.

The Rotrex fits and we have draw up an ali mounting bracket, i just need to finalise the MX5 engine mounts and she will be off for beed blasting then onto the powder coaters. Im still working out which ecu to run but ive used DTA a few times so i think that will be best?

Resurrecting an old thread I know, but just wondered if you got it all worked out in the end? Thinking of doing similar and I know the engine will fit relatively easily, but the bell housing and box is much wider than the Xflow and T9 in mine.
