83mph in a 70mph Dual Carriageway. The letter has come out for intended prosecution, and there is a box to tick if you want to be considered for a Speed Awareness Course.

The below document states one CAN be offered to drivers between 10% +2mph, and 10% + 6mph over the posted limit at the discretion of the specific constabulary.
http://www.acpo.police.uk/asp/policies/Data/nation...

I'm trying to find out:
1 - if Hampshire definitely offer it up to the max level
2 - if the "if you want to be considered" box is on all tickets, or just those likely to be offered.
3 - if it is actually a considered decision to offer it based on history, or an 'if the numbers match' exercise. ie: Would it take into account say 20 years driving and only 3 points (received 18 months ago)?

TIA!

I know this is an old thread and I apologise for that.

My other half had been sent a NIP from Hampshire for 79 on a motorway, just got the 2nd letter through and no offer of a course, just the fixed penalty. She's not been caught before. Is this normal?

I was done 6 weeks ago for 78 in a 70 on the M6 in Penrith (NSL at the time, no reduced limits - they were having a zero-tolerance weekend) and was offered a course (did it last week). To not be offered a SAC for a first time offence means there must be another factor involved, most likely a reduced limit that pushed the exceed speed above the threshold.

70. It's not variable there. No factors at all that we are aware of. States 79 in a 70, no previous offences. No clue as to why, they don't seem to offer explanations.

Well Hampshire def runs courses according to the paperwork I have.. run by AA drivetech and www.ndorsbooking.aadrivetech.com to book. (I was done in Wales but they gave a sheet of counties where I could take the course).

Although obv the police would need to approve.

They don't have to offer a course as an option, even if the transgressor meets all of the qualifying criteria.

No harm in giving them a call and asking whether your OH could be considered for a course.

Tick the box for the offer of a course. It wouldn't be there otherwise. Nothing to lose if the letter gives the option. Check the wording in the letter too.

She's paid it now just to get rid of it. I was just intrigued. The paperwork definitely suggested a course should be offered, showed the various limits for courses etc. Don't remember seeing any box to tick though.

Those thresholds in the OP seem quite low.

I've got a letter from GMP (doing 38 in a 30), their thresholds for a SAC are as follows:

20mph - up to and including 31mph
30 mph - 42 mph
40mph - 53 mph
50mph - 64 mph
60 mph -75 mph
70 mph - 86 mph

It's 10% plus 9mph.
