Pope's visit - are people saying anything positive at all?
Discussion
So the top banana's visit is pretty imminent now. Pretty much everything i've heard about his visit recently has been in the negative; from the cost, to talk of his conservatism, to protecting 'his' church above the needs of those his priests have abused.
Has anyone actually said anything positive about his visit?

Not sure if anyone else is saying anything positive but the fact he is coming here bearing in mind he's going to get grief from many sides is brave. He obviously wants to confront the controversies surrounding him and his church.
Lets see what he has to say first. I hope we show him some respect and not turn it into a pie-flinging contest.

He's always been a target for the nutters, the people who hate Catholicism, anybody who has a grudge against the church or just hates it. The BBC have even asked Peter Tatchell (the nasty, venomous, evil so called gay rights campaigner) to write and present a show about the Pope . . . which is a bit like asking Tony Woodley to present "This is your life" with Willy Walsh as the guest.
Ignore the Pope and his visit this time, nothing worth reading will be published.

MI5 are able to get a better handle on who the real nut jobs routing for that particular sky dweller are?
And before I get told to say 3 Hail Mary's I men the nut jobs, not the normal Catholic church goers, but the UK's version of the would-be Koran burners.
I don’t have a problem with it at all. Indeed even as a non believer if it were going on on my doorstep I might be tempted to have a gander. I mean it's not every day you get to see a real lifeNazi and child abuse apologist pontiff paraded about the streets in the back of a carriage these days.

It's the UK. No one is ever positive about anything.
I wouldn't say that. It's more the problem that when we are positive about something we are told by others that we shouldn't be.But I do care about the overall atmosphere of negativity that emanates from our media.
OP - are you basing this on the mainstream media? If so, it's hardly surprising, positivity and good news rarely result in big sales. Controversy and sensationalism are much better. I've no idea of the split of people supporting the Pope's visit and those against it, but would be very surprised if the mainstream media did anything but emphasise the negative aspects.

I care more, as I suspect you do, about the fact we have a media who try to make the news rather than do their blinking job of just reporting it...

Read this in The Independent a few days ago:
http://www.independent.co.uk/opinion/faith/the-pop...
Found it quite interesting.
Is The Independent an acceptable tome on Piston Heads, it rarely gets a mention?

I keep hearing this. Why does he deserve respect? For my part, I'll be ignoring him as I did when his predecessor visited Ireland in 1979 and the UK in 1982.

Plenty of HIV "positives" in Africa that could have been avoided if he'd said it was OK to wrap it up...Has anyone actually said anything positive about his visit?

he's also a Head of State (just like the Queen) and is here on a State Visit. So, on that basis, he deserves the same respect as any other head of state on a state visit.
.
robert mugabe?.
People have the right to protest, I hope they do, I do hope they do it with respect though.
