Eco cars driven by twonks

More of a rant than a question, but why do people who go out of their way to buy a vehicle for its green credentials hybrids, hypermiler diesel, bluemotion etc.. then have to drive it like their pants are ablaze, surely this defeats the purpose??

its a combination of image and a lack of understanding. Some people want people to see how they are saying the world by having a bluemotion/prius etc but dont actually care enough to drive in a way to reflect this.

Same thing with the scrappage scheme:"i have scrapped my perfectly good 10 year old car (which is not an old car by any stretch) to save the world buying a new one."

As said Co-Car tax, basically the greener the car the better as you end up getting paid a st load more per mile, personally though I would take it on the chin and buy something gutsy and not be such a pussy about fuel economy

You get two types of Prius driver over here.

1. Old coffin-dodger doing 25mph everywhere, including motorways, with eyes fixed on the fuel economy screen

2. Company car driver doing 110mph everywhere, testing the limits of those fuel saving tyres at every corner.

Most nights on my way home from work I get overtaken by a Polo bluemotion. Now I don't hang around on the motorway so he must be going pretty close to flat out in it. No real problem with his driving, it just strikes me as an odd thing to do.

I do appreciate the idea behind co car tax but still couldn't bring myself to drive any of current choice of Eco cars.

Maybe he gets to drive a car flat out and still get 50+ MPG

Each to their own. I bought my Lexus hybrid for the performance and the build quality. I was fed up with the lack of build quality from the German prestige equivalents. I now get luxury, reliability and V8 performance with 30 plus mpg. Not all hybrid drivers are "twonks". Let's face it we will all be driving alternative fuel cars in due course.

Before anyone slates me for putting an alternate view on hybrids, my other car is a Caterham 7.
