Would you buy the right spec car in the wrong colour?

Looking for a cheap swb pajero for lots of various reasons that I will probably keep for around 2 years - maximum budget £1000.

Found a 1994 example, 2.8tdi, manual, all original paperwork/receipts (inc Japan), full tax and test, decent AT tyres, all the extras and accesories that I want and apart from an easily fixable scratch on the front bumper it is mint inside and out.

But its green - not the dark green but a rather nice metalic shade, I like the colour but fear it may look slightly 'girly'.

I have looked at many rough examples - but this one ticks all the boxes apart from the colour.

If you like the colour what are you worried about? Life's too short to be that concerned about what assumptions others make about you based on your car.

You won't find many good ones for your budget. If the car is as good as you say then get it bought pronto. TBH I can't believe you're worried about the colour - it's not exactly Barbie pink, is it?

I thought it was going to be that awful beige / gold colour, but the blue isn't too bad at all.

Not having a dig but at your budget I don't think you can afford to be too picky about the softer issues i.e. the colour..!!! If it starts, stops, is in decent nick and has some test I think that's all that matters.

If the colour is such an issue paint it matt black with a roller for an urban terrorist look.

Well for a 1k car no I wouldn't worry about the colour. But then I spent 2 years driving a duck egg blue fiesta......

Well I bought a Subaru Outback in that metallic beige they call champagne but a got a ridiculously good deal on it because, I guess, the dealer just couldn't shift it because of the colour.

And at least it's not f***ing silver.

If I was spending a lot of money I wouldn't settle for the "wrong" colour


But for a grand I wouldn't be fussed as long as everything else stacked up. And I do appreciate £1000 IS a lot of money for some people but it isn't for a car

When looking at cars that cheap you can't be fussy on colour IMO. Condition and spec has to lead.

I know I am being a bit fussy - but its not like these are a rare item!

And I have got more money to spend but thought it would be fun to have a tight budget - the less on the truck the more on I can spend on 'toys' for it!

Going for a second look and good drive tomorow (only had a quick spin) and if all adds up will get it bought - at least the mud will show up....!

I like the colour.

I don't know what is happening - the only colour that seems acceptable is grey, or shades there of, from black to white.

It's depressing.

Yep, I went for the right car over colour with the X-Type I'm driving now. I was looking at a new one in black but the dealership happened to have a demonstrator with one or two extras above my preferred spec going for 2/3rds the price but in 'cilli red' instead. No brainer really.
