Funny you should mention this as I recently bought it on DVD. I have to say I was surprised by just how unfunny it is, feels very much like they were running out of ideas. There were a few good scenes but the opening with the pirates and the ending barely raised a smile.
I loved the TV series by the way and LoB and The Holy Grail are two of the funniest films ever made.

Eric Idle wrote some superb lyrics to the various Python movie songs. But Meaning of Life had some gems...
Why are we here? What's life all about?
Is God really real, or is there some doubt?
Well, tonight, we're going to sort it all out,
For, tonight, it's 'The Meaning of Life'.
and
Just remember that you're standing on a planet that's evolving,
And revolving at 900 miles an hour,
That's orbiting at 19 miles a second, so it's reckoned
A sun that is the source of all our power.
and
It's fun to charter an accountant
And sail the wide accountancy,
To find, explore the funds offshore
And skirt the shoals of bankruptcy!

I remember a John Cleese interview a while back when, just after the film came out he went to see his accountant, who he said didnt have any sense of hunour. He was worried what the accountant would say about the film and its portrayal of his profession. Cleese said he said And sail the wide accountancy,
To find, explore the funds offshore
And skirt the shoals of bankruptcy!
"Oh no. I'm a CERTIFIED accountant. They were chartered accountants...."
Nothing more was said on the matter!!

"Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government."
The inspiration for the killer rabbit came from an actual panel in the Cathedral of Notre Dame. In a series of images depicting the faults of man, cowardice is shown with a knight running away from a rabbit. So now you know!.
"Right silly little bleeder. One rabbit stew coming right up."

A little OT, but I saw musical Spam-a-lot about a month ago and was really impressed! I'm a big Monty Python fan and wasn't really looking forward to it, thinking it would just be a mish-mash of all their best known jokes (which I guess it was in a way) but the whole show was really well done; it's followed the basic plot of Holy Grail but with some fantastic new jokes thrown in - the actor's timings and mannerisms were spot on as well
