As title really. I've searched and found a few posts suggesting the WDW speedway in Orlando as a possible attraction for a PHer, but can't see any comments from anyone who's actually done it!

So, is it worth the cash; and which is better - V8 noise or Indy speed? (Can't see me getting away with both wink )

ears

I'm in the process of looking into exactly the same thing.

One thought that occurs is the Orlando track looks pretty tiny and Daytona is only an hour or so's drive away. If you're tempted by one of the Richard Petty experiences Daytona might be a better bet? I managed to go round Daytona last year, and although it was only at low-ish speed in a road-spec Chevvy Impala SS it was still quite an experience.

ETA This guy's done both and rates them against each other at the end: http://www.disunplugged.com/2010/07/29/indy-racing...

When are you there?

I was last in florida 12 or more years ago - we went to Daytona and caught the first practise day of the 500 - loud and fast! smile But no driving as I was still paying off university....

Just seen this thread, my missus paid for 3 laps at the disney track in Florida in an Indy car for me, was an awesome experience, but over very quickly because you have the out lap, then one fast lap and then he slowed down halfway through the 3rd lap to come into the pits. Would highly recommend it, but go for 6 or 8 laps if you can, or if your flush, pay for the training and drive it yourself, think its was around $500 for 8 laps driving yourself and 3 hours training, but when your driving yourself, your still following one of the other cars.

Wish i'd had a go in the Nascar and will defo do that next time i'm there.

I'm off again in December. The last time was the same time last year and I found a space on a press trip to Daytona. I'm not a huge stock car fan, but there was something very cool about getting up onto that banking.

Ummmm....

Well, I've looked through links and reviews and decided that: most people reckon going for the 2 session package is better as you're just getting the hang at the end of the first..... and that's about £600.... which is a lot of money to follow a pace car around at speeds I have got to on track before.... I think I'd rather save up for my Jonathan Palmer day (currently pencilled in for my big 4-0 next year wink ).

I did it about 12 years ago - great afternoon out. Yes - you have to follow a lead car - but they get on with it and time you ( and in my case brake test you for being a Limey!)

Cars are quick and big and on a small track you really get to understand stagger - turned in as well as anything I've driven. I think it's 1.3 miles and a trioval

They also time you (or did) so I was pleased to be second fastest on the day in front of a load of Americans

Like all race schools you don't get a lot of tracktime - but I'd say it was better run than the equivalents in the UK.

Daytona looks close on the map and I looked at it - but WDW is a good place to get your first NASCAR fix!

Well that was fun!

It was one of those things that looks slightly tame from the outside (and when you accelerate down the first straight if you've driven any reasonably extreme performance car) but takes on so much more when you actually do it. As mentioned above the stagger is fascinating and works beautifully.
