Hi,

I'll be taking my Dad along (Birthday surprise) to the Revival on Saturday. Neither of us have been to Goodwood before.

Any hints, tips or recommendations?

We won't be dressing up - will we be in the minority or majority?

Thanks.

Minority - big time... just be smart - loose the branded anorak and baseball cap and put on a shirt and tie with some trousers.. You'll see why when you get there...

Oh - and enjoy, I guaruntee it will be one of the best days of motorsport you've ever enjoyed.

I'd definitely try to do something, even if it's only a suit or pair of chinos and a jacket - even better if you can top it off with a flat cap or panama etc. Some people go all out with uniforms etc which is great but doesn't mean everyone needs to, full fancy dress mode can be too much and some go over the top too IMO, coming dressed like Elvis!!! Modern jeans, bright t-shirts, hoodies etc will stick out like a sore thumb however.

Definitely dress up or at least smart - you'll get so much more out of the day - have a great time

You think you'll look odd if you dress up...Quite the reverse and it misses the point of the event concept. Doesn't mean you have to dress in the standard Tweed or indeed fancy dress - which has been said usually looks OTT, just something of the period. As above, you'll have a better day for it.

Take a camera, make sure you get plenty to drink (its easy to forget), spend a minute looking at the programme to plan the day, if you want to see racing get trackside early, be aware you can't get in the main paddock without a badge, wear comfy shoes!!!!!, eat in the spitfire cafe, take a tractor ride around the circuit if you have time, enjoy!!!!!!!!!! It really is the best.

We always walk the circuit and stop for drink/grub at various point with cameras at the ready. Not been for a few years and really should go again it's one of the best meets ever and I include F1 in that.

Outstanding moment was not car related though, was maybe 3 years ago when the had 9 Spitfires flying in formation, they disappeared over the horizon and then turned and came rumbling over the tree tops right over us - made the hairs on your neck stand up! Christ knows what Jerry thought when there were squadrons flying over!

Dress up or dress smart - as was said before, modern/trendy clothing just won't cut it - but most of all enjoy!

A few of my 'best dressed' highlights from last year.

You will be staggered at the number of people there. The advice above about dressing up is very well said. You tend to see those in 'standard' motor racing attire standing out like a sore thumb.

And forget about mobile phone coverage.

The 'Doctor in the House' pair of Leslie Phillips wannabees is my mate Simon (in his co-respondent brogues!) and me in the snapbrim. My gear is modern chinos, M&S country shirt, M&S titfer, hairy wool tie and sensible country shoes.

The other shot of me by the Porsche was homage to Jo Bonnier and the early 60s quasi beatnik 'cool' set
Blue slacks and matching long sleeved polo shirt and flat hat one day this year I think (Pete Collins / Fons De Portago look)

I think everyone has mentioned dressing the part enough - do it ....... But there is so much more, I try and get a look over the paddocks early, and make sure you venture out behind the main paddock as beyond there are plenty more accessible areas plus the Aircraft etc. Take some time (if possible) to stop up and just let the show wander past - if you're near one of the "set pieces" such as Glamcabs then so much the better and then as mentioned take a casual walk or tractor ride around the far side of the circuit. Aim to be somewhere between Fordwater and Lavant for the TT wink ....... I can't make it this year - I'm not jealous!!

Thanks all. Seems like dressing up is very much the order of the day!

Really looking forward to it. Fingers crossed that the weather is ok.

You'll be in the minority but more to the point why wouldn't you?

Laziness but mostly lack of time to sort something out. My wardrobe doesn't have much in the the way of tweed but I have managed to source a couple of slightly fragrant flat caps so they will have to do.

Really looking forward to it. Just trying to sort out what camera stuff I need to take now!

I'm going but its work, photographing for a magazine. Have no suitable period clothes, whats recommended? Would jeans & shirt suffice?

yes, you won't get refused entry.
