Hi Ted,

I just got a shiny, new laptop after someone else decided that they really needed my old one and took it while I wasn't watching :-( I'm having a small problem with PH which is obviously related to my settings in MS Explorer. Could you give me some hints on where to start looking?

When I return to PH the pages are not refreshing. I enter "General Gassing" forum and the times of the last post are all from the last time I entered - yesterday evening. The same is true for any forum - it doesn't refresh the page - it reloads it from the last time I visited. I have to "refresh" manually.

Thinking that this was related to "Temporary Internet Files", I checked out my options there. It is set to "automatically check for newer versions of stored pages".

Any suggestions? Thanks!

PetrolTed

I've not encountered this myself. Can anyone else suggest anything?

There is an option under Tools -> Internet Options then on the general page click Settings..

You should find some radio buttons that select how often the browser looks for new versions of stored(cached) pages. Mine is set to "every visit to the page" which I would think is the default..

I doubt that this is your problems but its worth a look

P.S. this is only true for IE if your browser is not IE then I don't know sorry....

I'm a UNIX dude - hate M$ - but I'll have a go

In exporer click Tools ->Internet Options.

Under the general tab, select settings in the Temporary Internet Files section and make sure that stored pages are updated automatically.

Thanks for having a go, but that's exactly what I've got selected...

if you delete all files in the cache does it make any difference when you first revisit the site?

Edited to Add.. Are you using a Proxy server?

I've just deleted the files in my cache. It appears to be working normally for the moment. It's a brand new computer - I've only had it a week which is why I wasn't expecting to have problems with the cache being full.

I'll try to keep an eye on it and see if the problem persists as the cache fills up again?

edited to add: I'm using the LAN to connect at work...

edited again - after a quick wander around all the times are back to today - I'm assuming it was related to the cache. I'll have to check back this afternoon and see if the computer has continued to travel through time at the same rate as I do or whether it has decided to remain in this morning... Thanks!

Any chance that the date/time was wrongly set at some point so that the cached pages had a future date and hence never got updated?

Blame Uncle Bill

BINGO! I wonder if that was it? Someone pointed out to me just yesterday that my calendar was one day early... So yesteday I turned the clock back by one day. If I were a bettin' man I'd say that was it????

Thanks a whole bunch.
