Did anyone see it? Usual story; rich family get to know poor family and help out where they can. The usual pattern is that the poor family are deserving, the rich family make their life easier and give the kpoor ids a chance.

I thought for a while that last nights programme was going to buck the trend: Woman with 5 kids in a 2 bed house. Father of the kids is an unemployed window cleaner who only stays 2 nights a week because of the overcrowding. House is a tip, garden is a rubbish site. Complain about their life but keeping having babies.

Mr and Mrs Rich visit and give them £2.5K to get things started (school clothes, new sofa bed which Mr and Mrs Poor had covered in stains within a week). They clear some debt, clear the garden with the money but Mr and Mrs Rich insist that before they do anything else that Mr snd Mrs Poor show willing by decorating the house. Mrs and Mrs Poor are not keen but do it anyway and Mr and Mrs Rich get the poor son assessed for dyslexia, provide tutoring and try to get them a large council house (with a promise of £6k to help with the move) and get Mr Poor a job.

My sense was that Mr and Mrs Rich, although they said they had had their views changed were stil concerned that Mr and Mrs Poor needed to do something for themselves, as I notice there was no offer to find them a house directly, for example by paying the deposit and 6 months rent which I guess the £6k could have just done in a cheaper area (although they did everything but get them a new house that in terms of establishing the housing list issues etc).

I find it compulsive viewing and thought last nights show was heading into the 'culture clash buffers'. Not sure if it was rescued by the people involved or careful editting?

Perhaps they wanted to help but not dictate?

Perhaps, although they did insist on them decorating the old house. If it works it must be a nice feeling to give a family a second chance.

Bear in mind I didn't watch the programme BUT that could have been for a few reasons (I am guessing big time though):

1. To give the kids a nicer place to live in
2. To check that the parents weren't just lazy sods
3. To make the house far more sale-able (given that they were then offering to help with moving costs etc).

It was a council house and I think they were converne dthat they would mess up any new house and wanted to see if they could be motivated to look after it.

Was this the one where both of the (poor) parents smoked?

That is fair enough (at least when you are going to stump up a few k to the people concerned!) - did they own the council house at all?
