How about no turbos?

Didn's want to hijack Andygtt's project thread on single turbo, but I think a high powered normally aspirated Noble would be sublime.
I just blew a big hole in the rear turbo to intercooler hose (thanks for finding that Adrian!) at Donington on Saturday so spent the afternoon driving around the circuit in what was effectively a normally aspirated car. I have to say it was a real hoot. Getting on the power early out of the twisties without excessive lugs of torque was really quite refreshing and made you realise just how good the Noble chassis is. At the end of the day you still have a 3L V6 in a vehicle weighing the same as a Ford Ka, so you're not really that hard done by. Other advantages were fuel consumption and heat generation, both significantly less than in twin turbo mode. I would deffo recommend dis-arming the turbos to all Noble track-newbies to learn how to drive quickly and smoothly through corners.
If however you just want to be a point-and-squirt merchant then wind up the turbos and get as much power as you can.
Having said all that, I'm just going to get on the blower to sort out a new hose so I can get my turbos back

Hi Rob - not quite sure what you mean about over spooling. The damaged hose was not caused by excessive boost (pressure) but by having an old (5yr) bit of hose located only 5 cm away from the exhaust pipes. It just gave up the ghost under normal boost and once the vacuum was broken both turbos just became passengers.
When I get the new hose I will heat-wrap it.

I assume he meant letting the compressor wheel spin into effectively free air, wth no pressure to act against they will spin faster.When I get the new hose I will heat-wrap it.
The way I understand it (and I'm more than happy to be corrected!) is that if you lose the seal in the pressure side by either a hose popping off or in this case a hole forming, the turbos are still attempting to produce the required boost (when under acceleration). As they will never reach the desired pressure due to the leak, they will continue to spool ever faster by being pushed by the exhaust gases until any inbalance in the shaft/wheels creates so much vibration that it cannot spool any faster.
Now if the turbos were producing some boost then I don't suppose it applies as much, because there's some resistance.
I was told by a tuner when I kept popping hoses on my old cossie that I should stay off boost (i.e. under 3k rpm ish or very gentle acceleration) as much as possible until able to refit it.

Only way you are going to get good N/a performance without spebnding a fortune is by sticking in a big v8, stick with the turbos, ferrari had it right all those years back with the F40, 3.5l twin turbo, now they have to stick in an enzo engine with masses of wizardry just to acheive the same performance.

Certainly wouldn't recommend removing a hose to deactivate your turbos, but I'm sure there must be some way that you can switch them 'off' if you so wished. I had a feeling that the 'unused' switch on the central dash was originally there for exactly that purpose, but in the end Lee decided not to go that route.

Im not saying its an ideal solution, but it would be intresting to see one used in an Noble!
