Hi All

When changing the arm and cap on the Dizzy the other day, I noticed I had a bit of play in the top shaft where the arm fit's... (may be also a bit of play in the lower shaft also?...)
So thought I'd give it a looking at this winter....

Does anyone have any info on this at all?.. I think the bearings are a problem area per-say.. and I have seen somewhere where the top bearing bore has been re-machined and a longer bearing fitted...
.
Also, I think TVR fitted differant weights or spring rates from standard?....

Any info would be appreciated... Cheers.. driving

I think most of the play is in the drive and pinned 'UJ's at the bottom, the lash is fairly normal and taken up when loaded. The cam gear drive is the one that causes most problems.

Seems to be 2 takes on the weights... Many claim its just a vanilla dizzy these days, whereas in the past it was widely reported that TVR built specials with springs/weights???? Sorry I don't really care as I enjoy playing Monsieur Guillotine rofl - just what I recall wink

Mmmm.. Does appear to be side to side like to top bearing is worn... Did talk to a local Landy Co who said it's a design fault and the top bearing wears out giving missfire and jurky rides!.... sound familiar.. so thought it may be worth a look....
.
I know.. i should get rid and fit a box of electronics somewhere..

Check with your Landy man that that applies to the Sd1 style bayonet, I was under the impression it was the earlier male rather than later oil pump drive.. and yours should be yet a whole different league with the serp cover and no oil pump load on the dizzy drive...

I have a brand new (Pattern) dizzy that I have never fitted - if you want me to try and make some sort of comparison let me know.

Thanks for that... but that's what actualy go me looking in the first place... Chris52 has a Pattern units that I looked at over the weekend... okay it's off the car so not held as solid as my unit thats fitted.. but I could not get any side to side movement in it at all.. as tight as anything... so thought I may look at a re-con on mine?.. I know the Pattern ones are quite cheap and you can get Mallory units etc... but just thought I might save £75 or so just replacing the bearings?....
Thanks anyway... have also been looking at MegaJolts etc now!.. what starts out as trying to save money always turns into spending a fortune!.. Why? laugh
