New C63AMG or New C55AMG in 2011?

I was wondering if anyone had any sight of what dates they will be bringing out the face lifted 63 AMG C class.

I have a C 63AMG now and I have the opportunity to upgrade to the C63 AMG DR520, I just want to make sure that the new face lifted C63 AMG does not come out within the next 18 months after making this purchase.

I had also heard a rumour that they would no longer be doing the C63 AMG down to new EU emission rules and therefore the replacement next year will be the C55 AMG instead? Does anyone know the power output of this and whether it will be comparable to the C63 AMG or whether in fact they will continue to produce the C63AMG version?

I’ve read the threads on the DR520 which are mixed however I don’t want to get it and then find out there will be a new C63AMG or a faster C55AMG with a face lift out next year – it might be worth holding out or not?

I read somewhere that the 6.3 will be dropped for a 5.5 twin turbo but still badged a 63 as buyers don't like downsizing apparently. I love having my intelligence insulted.

Never driven one but most reviews I've seen of the DR520 say it's not worth the extra. Didn't help much did I?

keep the C63AMG, it seems everyman and his dog is going for a dull twin turbo set up now . Come on AMG we loved the supercharged V8 and you got rid, The 6.2 was a lovely replacement though.

What on earth would you want to get rid of a C63 AMG for? Can't be more than a few years old.

Not 'keeping up with the Jones's' me hopes.

Well I would not be necessarily getting rid of it - my one has 8,00 miles and I thought the DR520 C 63 AMG might be a nice power upgrade – so it’s more of a swop over!

I certainly wouldn't hang on for a turbocharged replacement; without doubt the normally aspirated or supercharged AMG cars of today will be better to drive than their blown successors, and hold their value quite well as being the last of the breed (as I'm sure the latest M3 and M5 models will for example).

I'm not sure if anything about the C has been published yet, but the official line from Mercedes (I can't for the life of me find the article) is that in the new S-Class, the S63 AMG will be a 5.5-litre twin-turbo V8. It'll still be called the S63, as mentioned above. I'd be very surprised if the C-Class didn't end up using a similar engine and continue the C63 name.

Remember that the current '63' cars should actually be 62s, BMW's 335 isn't a 3.5-litre, and so on. Numbers in names are.. Dodgy

I'll miss the free-breathing V8 if it does get dropped, but you never know how well they might turn out the blown replacement.

That is dodgy - so it sounds like I should hang onto it as I will be hard pressed going from a 6.2 to a 5.5 without some serious power gains. So the DR although overpriced it’s certainly a cheaper option than going for the Brabus equivalent and it holds all the normal warranty! I just need to put up with the colour selection!!

I don't think the DR520 is oevr priced, the interior is a lot better never mind the upgraded mechanicals. It's a lot more bespoke as well.

Well, I think a power increase would be a given. I think you could reasonably expect 10-15% more power from the newer unit, plus an improvement in economy which is, after all, the whole point.

If it were me, though, from what I've heard about the brilliance of today's C63, I'd be keeping it or going DR520 the new 5.5 can wait to be proven good. And to conveniently depreciate for a while!

I spoke to Mercedes Benz World and they said that the C 55AMG version is not likely to be about till mid to late 2012, the base models late 2011 so the DR version or keeping mine sounds like a good option. Thanks.
