Car is having the clutch done today,

Just spoke to him as I said there was still a slight leak, not the crank seal this time, rear main is ok. Its the seal on the rear of the engine, he is going to have a look at doing it for me.

What is the seal on the rear on the engine that it known for leaking, I am having a memory blank.

Cheers

James

CAS O-ring.

Top of engine, back of cam cover, exhaust side on a 1.8 and intake side on a 1.6 IIRC.

Mine was leaking when I did my clutch and was dribbling down the back of the block and creeping through the bell housing too - could very easily be this I reckon, and we all know that even a little oil can make a big mess.

Costs about a pound so get it changed!

You have more room to do it if you have the rocker cover off.I got the full rocker cover gasket kit and wondered why I had the O ring left...just after I had refitted the rocker cover and gasket and screwed back in my strut brace etc.Joy!

I changed it in the end, though, with the rocker cover still in place, but before you remove it, it's best to mark it with a pen and try not to move the spinning blades inside once it comes out.You really don't have a lot of room, sadly.

I am told, it can be a frickin nightmare to get back in, so it seems you either get it right first time, or it's a PITA.I got lucky probably, as mine went in perfectly, despite me losing my grip on it and the blades moving numerous times.

The old ring will have to come out obviously and that will probably be quite hard (as in not very rubbery any longer), so you will need to remove that with a knife or small screwdriver.Don't worry if it all breaks up, just watch where the pieces go.

Fixed,

Nice and simple job, for the 1st time this morning there was no oil on my garage floor, not a drop!!!!!!

Over the last 12 months I have always had either a small drip or at times when other issues have been apparent lots of oil on the floor.

But now there is none!
