Up to £2k, largish family car required

I'm after a Mondeo sized diesel upto £2000, but £1500 ideally. A Mondeo is the obvious choice but as my budget probably won't stretch to the TDCi, is the TDDi all that bad?

Also, Peugeots and Citroens seem to crop up a lot. Am I missing out by discounting them? Any others to suggest.

I should add that cheap running costs are a priority and I'll be keeping it for about a maximum of 2-3 years.
