Awareness Message
Date:
14th September 2010
To:
All Land Rover owners
From:
Local media team
Reference:
NB-CMS-2077-2010
Message:
This message is to make all Land Rover owners aware of an emerging crime trend in Northamptonshire. Criminals are targeting the Land Rover 90 and 110 models for parts as well as stealing the vehicles themselves.
Whilst the Land Rover 90 and 110 are excellent workhorses, they are also a valuable tool and prestige item. When not in use, please ensure your vehicle is secured, whether it is parked outside your residence, at work, in a rural setting, shopping or at a sporting event. Remember parts from your vehicle such as doors, bonnets, wheels are very saleable.
If you have a garage, please put your vehicle in it. The garage should be alarmed. Your vehicle should be fitted with an alarm and immobiliser. If your vehicle is regularly parked on your driveway consider fitting a detection device to warn you of criminals approaching your vehicle.
Please be assured that although this is an emerging trend, Northamptonshire Police is working hard to indentify the offenders involved.
We are appealing for you help in reporting any persons acting suspiciously around your vehicle immediately on 03000 111 222 or 999 in the event of an emergency/crime in progress.

Really? I beg to differ. When mine go nicked off the drive, they didn't even come out or speak to me after I reported it except to tell me they hadn't found it and were closing the case.
I did get a "sorry you're a victim of crime" letter.
Also remember that your insurance only covers about £100 for your stuff in the car. I lost all my off road kit (strops, shackles, hi lift), my walking kit, some tools CB etc. So go and empty all of that s
t out the back of your car.Liszt said:

No, you mean your insurance only covered that much.

Good for you. Best to be prepared. Also, if it does get nicked make sure you have evidence of service history and all work done and that all mods are declared. Small print....always worth a read. I've got a little more cover than that.

And you have receipts for all the stuff you have in the truck. Insurance companies are weasels.

A nice smug response to someone who just wanted to warn others, hope it made you feel good!
Ah yes, much better thanks. But if you think that's smug you really need to get to know me better.Anyway, it was simply a warning in responce to Liszt's warning that it's worth checking what one's insurerance covers before the event.
So, thanks for YOUR sarcastic response to someone who just wanted to warn others too. I hope you feel good!

Stop fighting on my thread
My insurance company requires to know all mods so they can 'adjust the premium accordingly' but openly state that these items are not covered by the insurance - makes you laugh!!!
Now that is a total swizz!!
