How does your partner feel about your car obsession?

Many of us on here spend disproportionate/unhealthy amounts of time and/or money on buying and fiddling with cars. This is quite clear from many of the topics and posts made every single day.

What does your partner make of all this, if you have one? Are you blessed with an understanding other half, or is your car fetish a source of much conflict?

I'm one of the lucky ones - Mrs cav is a big fan of performance cars, and willingly accompanies me to motorsport events, car shows etc., and she does not baulk at regular changes of vehicle. Some of my male friends/relatives, however, have more of an uphill struggle to indulge in their passions.

She loves horses a bit more though.

Mine displays a passive interest at times. She's happy to come to meets and has a pretty good time in all honesty. I still owe her for the hour and 15 minutes she spent waiting with me, in the rain, while I waited to hear an 8C Competizione

Mine likes being taken out for a blat and is happy enough for me to spend my money on it.

Passing interest - we'll discuss the looks (and colour, obviously) of cars but she'll turn off if I want to talk about anything else.

My wife is slowly coming round. Especially now we have started going to meets etc. Whereas before it was just something I spent too much money on. I suppose that was my fault as she didn't really get any benefit.

My wife's not too bothered, as long as we have enough to get by on, I can do almost
whatever I want.

My partner of ten years gave me the elbow a couple of months ago. I'm convinced it was precipitated by me wanting to change my car. "You've got a perfectly good car!" she said. She never understood why I wanted to have a better car.

My other half used to see a car as a means of getting from A to B, but since buying her a VW Corrado two years ago, shes slowly started to like cars more and more. She is now on her second Corrado as she wanted something faster so she got a supercharged G60 one. She comes to meets and shows, she came along to the Brighton Speed Trials at the weekend, and we even had a conversation about increasing the boost on her car tonight. And, she knows the difference between a supercharger and a turbo. Shes a top girl I have to say, she lets me spend time/money etc on my cars

She always liked cars. In her 2 and a half years with me i've pushed that a little more. Can still bore her if i get TOO deep talking about them.
Has a nice car herself, however she prefers to be driven and really enjoys coming on PH runs, trusting my driving completely. Really likes spirited drives.
Loves the social side of the 'scene' now also.
Our finances are still seperate so her input on costs has remained none
Oh and she's utterly F1 mad like me, something she was before we met.

When I got together with the Mrs 8 years ago I had a mk1 MR2 & a Mk2 MR2, she said she realized how much I love my cars so if she ever tried to make me get rid of them I had permission to ditch her.

I now have three two seater cars, two of which don't run.. I have been asked to get rid of one of them.. I can tolerate that of her and I think that puts her in the tolerating my car obsession catorgory

My GF is into her Classic cars whilst I am into anything and everything with 2 or more wheels and an engine. She understands the obsession and puts up with it but she still does not understand the early morning/late night random drives and I often get asked who i'm going to meet!

My wife accepts that i am addicted to cars as i accept she has ocd that she buys stuffed toys. It could be a lot worse and more expensive!
