Selling my car, so getting the private plate on retention or transfer if I can get it done smoothly enough.
No such luck.
Lost the certificate somehow, somewhere.
Have literally turned the house over. Apparently I have to contact the DVLA IN WRITING to request a new one...God bloody knows how long that will take...
Which has completely scuppered my plan of getting old plates back on, then renewing tax and getting it all done seamlessly within the next two weeks.

. I was at a black tie affair a while back and left my cufflinks in the damn shirt. They had been made years ago for the 400th anniversary of my university. Gold. Not very valuable but irreplaceable. I'm a little confused here - is the registration still on the car that you wish to sell? If so, you won't have a certificate.
Or is the registration on retention already? In which case it can't be on the car so it's not a problem that you can't find the certificate (for now).

To get the plate off the car - go to local DVLA office and submit all teh paperwork to remove current plate and return it to previous plate (which should be avaliable and you will not need (or have been given) a retention certificate for)
Should get the paperwork back in 7-14 days (well that's what the DVLA managed last time I did one)
