tachometer goes to 2200 and stops

My tachometer on my Griffith 500 goes to 2200 and stops regardless of how high I rev beyond. Any thoughts if there as an electical explanation, or is it (as I suspect) more likely a mechanical issue?

I have not pulled it yet to see how to open it, I assume it's straight forward once it's out - but guidance welcome

It all depends on how its driven I would have though. Some of the V8s ive worked the rev counter is driven off the distributer. If thats the case it could be a simple case of wear. Just a thought. Or, it could be broken wear it locates to the drive mechanism.

Thanks, I believe it is electronic, and since it does a very set point that it stops at I think the guess that it is the gauge is right... guess when the winter comes I will have it out and checked out.

By the way, new to the Griffith - but not new to TVR ownership, I have done 620,000 km in TVRs to date.

The old Stewart Warner Gauge (well speedo at least) has 2 coils that move the pointer - basically one in the X axis and one in Y axis. Maybe one of them isn't working - just a wild guess - and when it gets to 2200 it needs to use the other coil aswell to continue the pointer moving.
