Fellow Tivers. I know it's one of those "They all do that sir" kind of answers, however there must be a solution. Not been too concerned as its only happen three times since July last year, twice being in the last week. Been for a run, car usually hot, 80ish. Stop, switch off. Try to restart - nothing! Fuel pump primes, you can see/hear the power in the ignition light/fan dip as you turn to engage ignition - then nothing. I've now timed it and it takes a good 50 mins of sitting like a lemon with the hood open in an effort to cool the starter motor off. What's the remedy? New starter motor and heat shield? Anyone else had this and got it sorted??! Please advise!

It's covered under warranty if you got it.

Just worth pointing out that rather than sitting in your car for 50 minutes, you could always give it a bit of a wack. If you got something in your car long and non-conductive, otherwise you get a bit of a spark with the ignition on.

See my profile here I changed my starter myself and I know of others on here that have brought and are using the reasonably priced one on that Website in my profile.

Went through the same starter troubles the last years.
When hot and switched off to open the bonnet and leaving on the fans helped to get it cold enough for a start after a fuel stopp.
Very annoying if you stall the engine sitting in traffic.
And of course it got worse finally.

This winter I decided to have this problem solved.
Only reconditioned or new starters are available by TVR and as Steve Heath warns, there are different starters around, so no good idea to get any because of the risk, that it would not fit.
And I was not brave enough giving my starter away in advance - experience taught me that.
As I found out, this problem is caused by a sticking solenoid.
As my starter is a Bosch item it was very easy to order the spare solenoid by next day delivery at the Bosch Contractors only by telling the part number which is written outside on the solenoid case:
On my 1996 500 engine it was: 0 331 303 168.
Cost of the solenoid is app. GBP 45,-- incl. VAT. for the part alone.
It is no exchange part, so you can order and change it yourself, very easy to do.

Now the starter works better then ever, means no starting problems when hot, well worth the small expense. Since it is done only a month ago, I can not give any experiences how long it will last.
Having the starter removed it was an opportunity to cover it, as recomended, I used convector foil.

Hope this helps.
Good luck,
Martin
