Alfa Giulietta - saw one "in the wild" yesterday

Ok, I'm a bit biased as I have become an Alfa fan since I got my first 159.
But I went to look at the Giulietta - opening day a couple of months ago and I must say I was a bit unimpressed that day.
I thought it looked too bland (for an Alfa), compared to for example the new Astra and new Megane.
This could also be down to the dark grey color they chose to promote the car, rather than the usual red/pearl white/black.
However, yesterday I saw one with the lights on (dim day) in the same color, driving in our street (with dealerplates on though) and I thought it looked fab. Much better looking than the MiTo (which the OH LOVES), and a lot of road presence. It was the first time I thought it didn't let the 147 down and looked like a bigger yet worthy successor. Also the back lights were very distinctive without being to fussy/trying to hard.
I'm really looking forward to see them in more appealing colors, and I would really consider one if I was in the market for a car in that segment.
Though I'm never in the market for a new car, so maybe in a couple of years...
PS: the car I saw was a mid-spec car, so nothing special in terms of body kit or wheels (like the one in press pictures).

I've always been a fan of Alfa's styling and this looks great. I haven't driven one yet though. We'll see how that goes when the time comes. I still have to do 35.000 kms in the current company car 
The current fad for white paint doesn't help (only a tiny handful of cars suit it in reality and most are American and sport twin blue racing stripes), but I saw one at Mangoletsi in that dark metallic red, and another in gloss black, and they looked gorgeous. Not quite as good-looking as the Mito though - that car has a tautness of proportion that the 'coke-bottle' line of the Giulietta just misses out on. Still, what I love about Italian design is that it aspires and apes cars from classes leagues ahead of themselves. Behind the wheel of a Ford or a Volkswagen, there's a sense of being put in your place, but behind the wheel of Alfas and even certain Fiats (Grande Punto for example), you get a sense that Giorgetto Giugiaro is highlighting various bits and saying through his design 'Y'see that? You get that on Maseratis as well!'
I wish the Americans could do something similar with a small saloon (a replacement for the Dodge Avenger would provide a perfect opportunity) that gave the average family motorist a taste of the new neo-muscle cars with sinister frontal styling, coke-bottle haunches, an option of strobe stripes and wild colours like Go Mango and SubLime, and an exhaust option that made any engine in the range - even the diesel - sound all burbly and uncouth through clever butterfly valves and the like.

The only other new car in this segment I can think of is the Astra, everything else is due for an update or new model. The Alfa is visually different to all the other cars so does standout.

The end result for me is I've ordered a new Giulietta for my next company car.

I've ordered a "fashionable" white one with the black sunroof and 18" 8C wheels
I live with a couple of other petrolheads, one of which has a company Bravo which is a really nice car. His will be up for replacement soon and collectively we all think the Guilietta is awesome.
We ordered the brochure t'other day. for me it would have to be the cloverlead in 8C red with the 8C wheels. Just gorgeous. and the interior looks sublime

I might be wrong but I don't think the Mazda 3 is a brand new car, just an updated version. The 5 dr Megane looks crap compared to the 3dr and I wanted a 5dr car, oh and I avoid French metal as well.

IIRC the mazda is a brand new chassis and interior too.

Also chosen to have a red leather interior and dark tinted windows, delievry due mid November, can't wait but I'm sure my Aston will tide me over in the meantime
