Cars that DO rust.

I run a few old opel Mantas, the first one I bought back in 1992 was a 1986 car and it already had an astounding amount of rust, yet a 1980 Manta I bought a few years later had very little, I have heard through others in the Manta club that the late cars seem to be made of very poor metal and this is why a 1977 manta is very often still with us yet late 86 to 88 cars have long since disolved.

Who else on PH is fond of cars that self distruct via the disolving method ?

Mazda 323 sport/premacy. Rot round the rear arches. Known issue, but if you dont have a full mazda history they refuse to fix it under warranty.

Very common on 86/87 Escorts. The story I heard at the time was that they were made from low grade Polish steel. Don't know how true it was.

We scrappaged a 2001 Almera. You could literally take out fist fulls of the chassis due to the rust. Shame, otherwise everything was 100%, but holy god I haven't seen anything so rusty since my folk's old Chevette.

1977 Alfasud; failed its first MOT on rust
1976 Fiat Coupe 3P; friend bought one with a quick respray in 1979. Took it for a service, the proprieter phoned to tell him it was so dangerous he (the proprieter) wasn't going to let him (the friend) drive it
Citroen 2CV circa 1978. My brother pushed his foot through the rusty floor in 1984.
