I always thought speeding laws in Austria were better. The official motorway limit is 130kph, but you can get away with 150kph without any problems.

If you do speed (I've been caught twice now), you get a €29 fine. That's it. Nothing else.

Having driven through Austria last week I found that at the 130kph limit I was passing most traffic on the motorway anyway.

Where was that? Austrians are generally very quick drivers. 140kph seems to be the norm here.

A10/E55 in the main. To be fair most journeys were at pretty quiet times. First time I've driven in Austria however I thought the standard of driving was generally higher than in the UK. Little lane hogging, little tailgating etc etc etc.

Nothing like that near Vienna. Middle lane hoggers are a pain in the arse and I usually find myself undertaking cautiously as they're so irritating.

The best standard so far is Germany between Dresden and Berlin. The only bad drivers were Czechs and Slovakians. The Germans themselves were very disciplined without hogging any lanes.
