We have a 3 yr old D3. Its been great and served us well. My wife has always hated RR's. But guess what, she has just been lent a white RR Sport 3 LTR HSE with 200 miles on the clock by our local dealer and she now wants one.
I was able to justify the D3 as its off road capabilities and where we live are reasonably compatible.
Is a RR Sport as capable?
Is my wife turning into a WAG and me a drugs dealer?

Isn't a RR sport just a disco in drag? so why should it be less capable - provided it has the right tyres?

I can't recall the last time I saw a RR Sport driven by a man.

Yes every bit as capable. Same platform underneath, same difflock option, and I think also slightly less rear overhang, so if anything it could be slightly better.

This is right but I don't know if the tyres are more performance oriented on the RRS. This may be the limiting factor if they are. I have driven them off road with standard tyres at a LR Experience Centre (in fact at Gaydon) and it is really very good indeed.

This was my understanding, so basically opt for proper tyres and you'll ride on our dreadful road surfaces more smoothly anyway, plus don't opt for flashly bling that hangs down or sticks out back and sides and the RR Sport should be useful.

As I see it the Disco is more relevant if you want 7 seats, and IIRC don't park in multistory parks??

And we have got to keep the car overnight, and I am going home tonight but apparently I am not insured to drive it! (Much to my wifes delight). Sod that ! Am sure my 3rd party insurance will be fine!

He's got a point though. We've got one at work. Can't remember it ever being called anything other than the Range Rover "Lite".

It's 9/10 the car for 3/4 the price. Seems like an intelligent, discerning choice if you ask me. Unless you care what other people think, maybe?

Just as good off road, as said RRS is a Disco in drag. Same chassis different body, the same Terrain Response setups, but with slighty worse overhangs - entry/exit angles, due to the bumpers being lower.

So on the same tyres you'll get the same off road performance, but a much better on road drive/handling experience than the D3 or the FFRR. The D3 and FFRR do roll around like boats compared to the RRS.

Plus you won't look a pikey! hehe

All well & good BUT, not with the tyres the RRS wears & it would look truely stupid with Disco tyres on it.

So unless yopu are prepared to change the tyres or possibly swap the wheels & tyres every time you want to do more than mount a pavement with it I can't see how an RRS is going to stay with a Disco off-road.

Wow what a great vehicle it is! Wife took me out for a spin. Very quiet, less roll, faster, better fit n finish etc... I want one too! Lots of toys (reversing cameras etc).... I like it.

Wasn't there a brief run of G4-spec RRS kicking around? They must've had more than fan belts for tyres.

Quite a few G4 RRS were built, think they ran on 19's with off road tyres.

As AJS has posted on another thread, General have released a new off road/on road tyre now available up to 20'.

So any RRS owner that wants to make the most of the RRS can, to be fair they run better on 19s - makes bumping up kerbs much more pleasent experience.

hehe

Most people don't get the RRS, until they drive it on road. Similar ability off road as a FFRR or Disco, but much more refined on road.
No need for seasickness pills if driven enthusiastically, compared to it's fellow Land Rovers. wink

Will you/the Mrs be coming over to the dark side then?
