New Car Moaners

Every week day PH has news about new car releases which the forum comments on. Pretty much every day its the same stuff:
"awful"
"terrible step backwards"
"will be bought by t
ts/idiots/sheep"
"boring"
They then go on to proclaim that no one will buy them and the company will go under. Its usually from people who have a horrible 10 year old st box in their profile.
What do people honestly expect from manufacturers? They seem to begrudge them releasing new models and trying to improve their offering.
Apart from a few examples their wrong every time anyway.

It's the 5-Series Saloon the moaners complain most of all.
The 5 can only be a 4-door middle executive car with an understated image.
Years of dull, but worthy until 2003 model everybody says ugly/crap etc. then the new model this year wnet back to basics and everyone says its dull! What more do you people want!
Same with the Audi A8 etc.
What do you really expect...

That may well be the case but I'd wager the moaners have never purchased a new car & never will. A lort of people predicted that pendragion/stratstone and a load of other car dealerships would go under.... Cant posibly survive.... Only minutes away... This is certainly why I avoid the majority of new cars. I'd pay £30k for a brand new 328i if this was 1998, or £10k for an MR2 mk1 in 1990. I wouldn't pay £35k for a brand new 3 series now though because they use drive by wire throttles, they're too heavy, use iDrive, clutch delay valves etc. Most modern cars are simply not good enough products for me to fork out that sort of cash for. I like newer cars because they're reliable though, so I'll usually buy such a car when it's three years old for half the price. I will buy a new car one day, but only if I think it's worth the money.New models look ugly, often similar between different company's, many are on shared platforms so share similar interior styles as well.
They are generally built more to a budget than previously and it shows.
They are full of electric equipment that constantly fails. The dealers don't know how to fix them unless a computer tells them how and it often leads them on an expensive part fitting exercise that you pay for.
Some of this is down to stupid regulations that the manufacturers no doubt would love to not have to comply with, but that's government meddling for you.
Never mind the price, some prices are insane, you could buy a Ferrari for the price of a top of the range golf. £45k for a Mugen Civic, seriously?
You can get so many good cars for £5k-£10k or less why spend lots of money on a new car (shopping trolley) that will halve in value when the money you lose in depreciation could pay for a very nice car.
The original poster sounds like one of those people that would drive a new astra then tell others they must be getting paid too much because they have a 10 year old boxter or similar that cost half what he paid.
Some people just think new = good and old = bad. They spend most of the time dreaming of owning a sports car whilst spending more than they need to buy a nice MX5 or MR2 or similar in depreciation every year.

Quite. I'd buy a new E30 M3, Peugeot 205 GTi, 968 Clubsport, BMW 328i Sport Coupe, Lotus Elise, Caterham etc, because I like them. I wanted to buy my Elise new actually, but they stopped making them just before I made the decision, and there was no dealer stock in the colour I wanted, so I had to buy a 4k mile 1 year old one. I spend as much on a car as I think it's worth. I'm about to buy an E90 BMW 3 series. I don't like the iDrive, the drive by wire throttle, or the porky weight - as such I think what I'm spending on a 3 year old example is fair - no way would I pay £35k for a new one, simply because I don't like it. If it was an Exige for the same money, then pass me my chequebook!
