Seatbelt jammed

I got into the car yesterday and the seatbelt is jammed - it won't budge.
I had a quick look to see if I could get to it but I can't even get my hands down the side of the seat. Please tell me I don't have to take the seat out......if I do then can someone tell me how but if there is a simpler fix then that would be great.

I had the same issue, and its a common fault due to the mounting angle apparently. I took mine out of the car and removed one of the pawls (there are two). It works fine now and has passed the MOT so very happy.
From memory there is only one bolt holding the belt spool to the chassi. You can get a socket down to it without removing the seat as noted before.

This exact same thing happened to the passenger seatbelt in mine last week. It happened while offering to give a female friend a lift, and we spent at least 20 minutes trying to free the thing but to no avail.
2 hours later I picked up my girlfriend and it worked first time no problem... Upon sharing the story with my gf she was quick to point out that the Tivver was looking out for her interests, and not letting me drive any other female companion around!
It had me baffled at the time, but looking back and reading this post, I was parked on quite a steep incline when picking up my friend. At least the puzzle is solved now lol

Erm I thought they were called pawls. Butmthe pawls look like flat cams/fingers. They jam in place when the belt is pulled suddenly and lock the drum. Your will see when you get the assy out that there are two of them and they work on inertia. I cant remember which one I took out, but I think only one was jamming. Just move the seat righ forward, sit on the ground and get your socket in with your fingers and after a bit of waggling you witll have it out.

When mine went last yeat, the mechanism inside the unit had simply failed and it was the tiniest little plastic anchor tooth. It's not a tough job to replace the unit, you've just gotta get behind the flexible trim panel that houses the seat belt and speakers behind the seat.
What ever you do, just make sure if you have to replace the unit, get a new one and not one off a scrapper as you wont know its history. I got mine from TVR Power.

Thanks for all the assistance guys.
It's all done - eventually. Nobody warned me that I wouldn't be able to stop the back of the bolt turning as I tried to undo and do up the single nut, without jamming a screwdriver into the hole to stop it turning because I couldn't get my man hands behind it with a spanner !
Thanks again for the reassurance though, it meant I would actually tackle it without begging for assistance from friends.

Had this happen for the first time today, searched and found this thread.
First time the car was on a slope and spent several minutes pulling at the passenger seatbelt to get enough out to plug it in. Half hour later stopped again pretty much on the flat, but still had problems.
Got home ready to take a look, found this thread, went back down to the car on the drive to take a look and it's now working perfectly!
Guess I'll just keep an eye on it and see what happens......
Doesn't take anything away from the enjoyment of driving the car today though
Just noticed this is on the Tuscan forum - but this was on a Tam
