If my Dad finally lets me get myself a track day car I will obviously have to actually settle on which one I want...So far my mind changes weekly! I was almost settled on a MK2 Toyota MR2 N/A (rev 2/3) but lately I have had a few thoughts on the MK1 MR2. So which one would be better as a budget track car? - or maybe something I have totally missed?

Others I have considered are:

MX5 - Don't think Dad will let me because of the "no roof" part
BMW E36 - Still seems like a good choice, especially as so many people keep choosing them!
Nissan Primera eGT
Honda CRX - If I can find a good enough one for the price
Ford Puma 1.7 - Still seems good to me??

I would Prefer a RWD but certainly wont dismiss the "right" car if it is FWD etc...

Budget is about £1k (plus a little wiggling room for upgrades)- Probably 1 or 2 track days as standard and then add Cage and other mods.

Have a look at the MR2 championship to see how they compare. Lightly modified versions of each, and race prepped, but you should get a good idea.

Here's the lap records for each circuit. Class A is Mk1, Class B is Mk2, and class 3 is Mk3...

Thanks for the links, They are just what I needed for a good comparison.

Also thank you for your opinion on which one you would choose, I'm swinging towards the MK2 even more now! smile
