Evening all.

I have just bought a part finished Midtec Spyder as a project for the winter. Hope to pick it up in the next couple of weeks.

As it's an old kit I am wondering if anyone has put one through IVA or even SVA?

Any other information would be welcome.

I remember the launch back in 1991 and even sent off for a brochure. Yes a brochure, they did them in the old days before the internet!

Are there any owners/ builders out there?

Cheers

Congratulations on your new kit....and I have a brochure myself....biggrin, I'm sure that a few PH members will know more about it than I do on IVA.....

Hi Roger,

I'm a (looks both ways) owner of a 1993 Spyder, I bought it complete, but it presently has a poorly pinto awaiting the completion of a head gasket replacement. The only significant work I've done is new gearbox mounts (as they were weak and a total miss-match to the engine mounts). As I'm in Kent if you need any pics or info on a completed one just email, I may be able to help.

But when you finish it you'll love it, it handles so well and is just so adjustable.

Good luck

Hi Bikali

Pictures of your car would be great!

Does the windscreen fit well on your car? I have just picked up the car and it looks like it will take a lot of work to get it to fit properly. Having said that it is an old tempered screen so I will need to get a Laminated one anyway.

Hi,

No my windscreen doesn't fit as well as i would wish, the rear edges are a couple of mm wide so its been built up/out by the screen fitter to get the bond. Its also starting to delaminate on one edge. What do you want pictures of ?

General pictures would be great for now. As I get into it I may be after others.

Has yours been through SVA?

That's probably because it's an old Saab rear window. Might have to get one made, Rog.

Hi, I have a Midtec Spyder, well in fact it is registered to both me and my husband. A really nice chap at DVLA let us keep age related plate and have both names on bluey (before SVA - sorry)
We are in Kent too and thought we were the only midtec for miles.
You may have seen our little one at Goodwood soft top this year as we are on your forum: and before we say more stop picking on the Smart Crossblades. That is one of my other cars and I was just as amused as everyone else at our parking antics.

Hi there, I've just registered as I have a Midtec Spyder too.
I bought mine in the spring and have driven it all summer and love it. I've just started rebuilding it and have it stripped down to the chassis at the moment whils I upgarde the gaerbox to a UN1 to take the torque of the focus rs engine that's going in.
I know they look a bit wierd but I suppose it's like having an ugly child.... Besides I love the way beach buggys look and I suppose these are a bit similar. Drives great though.
Would love to hear from anyone else as midtecs seem a bit thin on the ground. I'm based in Poole, Dorset.

There's one of these that looks very much like an abandoned project on somebody's driveway about five doors down from us.

State of completion looks like "not very" and I doubt it's been touched for the last three years (since we moved in).

Shame really.

Nope, near Reading. Been tempted to ask about it once or twice, but haven't seen anybody outside the house. Don't want to knock coz I'm just curious about it. (Or is that nosey!)

They also have an MGB GT that doesn't look like it's been on the road for quite some time ... must be some of those "when I get round to it" type projects.
