What car - interesting-ish heavyweight?

I own a caravan.

There, I've done it, I've 'come out'...

Anyway, might look to change either mine or the missus' car for something with a bit more weightiness than my current Octavia vRS (and maybe more interesting). Derv would be a bonus for torque/economy. Manual pref'd but I know auto makes more sense. Convertible a bonus (but struggling for interesting options). Something around 1700kgs+ would be best (for comparison the Skoda is 1450kg). Budget £1000-10000ish (cheaper the better really)

Thoughts:
Freelander 2 TD4 SWB (removable roof)
Jeep Wrangler/Unlimited (4 door CRD - roof as per freelander)
Peugeot 607 2.2
VW Phaeton
Jag S-Type 2.7D
Renault Avantime (have always had a real soft spot for em) or Vel Satis?
Citroen C6 (bit pricey still)
Volvo C70 / A4 / 3 series cab (bit common)

Any more along these lines? The more interesting the better really

Look into Shogun/Pajero's. Parents have one of the biggest single axle caravan's which was on the market last year and they have been all around europe and the UK with the Pajero without anything more than the derv thirst as a problem! I have driven it and its a lovely drive(for an auto) and has plenty of "toys" (I have a metro with wind up windows so anything is a toy to me) and comfortable.

Not sure how much they paid but they got it on around 40k miles from an importer and its now on 130k km's.

These are good cars too

expensive when they go wrong, but that tends to happen a lot less than a disco.

Disco, tooo obvious (but agree they really are just fantastic)

Shogun - 90s jobbie is a bit urglh, later version a bit pricey. Both suffer from being too obvious, and if I can be so ignorant to consider 'image'- when towing, a shogun to me says the same as towing a 'van with a scruffy white transit...
