its at david gerald tvr in worcester. i'm tempted to go for a look, its been forsale for a good few and it doesn't seem particular overpriced hence my question? or are the more expensive chims not selling as the others i've had my eye on in the trader seem to have been forsale ages too?

I bought my Chim 500 2 weeks ago privately.
Its a 97 on a P plate with 22,000 miles FTVRSH, but NO PAS. The car was a bit neglected, but otherwise seems fine - in fact its bl**dy brilliant! (touch wood).
I paid 13,500 for mine - which I think was cheap, but I don't know that 18,000 for a year younger is cheap! When I was looking there were quite a few cars available if you were willing to drive a few miles to see them!
I don't doubt that the car is worth every penny and I'm sure its in fantastic condition and I'm not trying to show off with how much I paid for mine, but I would have thought if you had 18K to spend on an R plate, then you should definately be having the pick of the crop!

Ian, yours does sound like a great deal. Thing is i'm abit picky with my requirements so i'm looking at a smaller slice of the market. I realise this isn't the best way to be when buying a tvr and you should buy on condition, not colour or engine size etc.
i was hoping on spending no more than 15-16k, but really i want a face lift car with PAS either 4.5 or 5.0 and has to be the right colour too lol its costing me all the money in the world so i wanna feel i got the right car for me, just means i have to wait longer

I think you're right, you shouldn't rush into it and wait for the "right" car.
When I first started looking, the first car I drove, I thought this is bl**dy great and I want it, but then I looked at some others and learn't a lot more about them and was a bit more educated by the time I came to parting with cash.
If I had bought the first one, then I'm sure it would have been great, but I'm glad I waited for a better one - just happens to be a co-incidence it was a good deal too. Saying that, I did want PAS myself, but conceded on this when I tried my car!

David Gerald are good and I bought mine from there a few years ago. They are knowledgeable about the V8's and you should be OK with getting one from them. I think that it is maybe a touch over the market price, but not by a lot - try haggling with them.... if its been there a while I am sure they will do a deal.
Mind you, its 98 450 with PAS and seems in good knick with very low miles.... so I would have said around £17K tops with £16K from a dealer and maybe £14K private....
Oh, and one thing to bear in mind - DG dont update their website that frequenly. You can often see a car "for sale" only to call and find its been sold a week before. They tend to be so busy that they just dont get the chance.....

But in my personal opinion are the best looking wheels which helped sway my decision when searching for my car. May have only been standard on the griff.
And as far as I know they are extremely hard to get hold of (think the phrase is Rare as Rocking Horse Sh1t), and are only available 2nd hand.

Like you say it is condition that matters. If I were you I would get down to James Agger and get a test drive in the one mentioned. Don't worry too much about mileage - it's solid history you want.
IMHO the standard wheels are better looking than the 500's (look too flat and, dare I say, plasticky). But each to their own. Don't rush into a decision - more examples of what you are aiming for are bound to come out of the woodwork in the next few months. But don't leave it too late, because the prices will rise as the weather gets better.

and used Rob Ingleby's resources to source it and do the deal at a smidgeon over what you are looking to pay. It was well worth it and I had considered 2 or 3 others before it (including the one at DG which has been there for a while).
