Having just bought a s/h Leicasonic compact I'm interested to know the true shutter count. The first file I took was in folder 101 and is called L1010086. If it was a Nikon it would mean exposure number 10,086, the first 10,000 being in folder 100. However this may be different, particularly as the camera is in such perfect condition I have trouble believing it's taken 10,000+ photos. Chap who sold it said he'd hardy used it - could it really only be 86?

I have Opanda IExif 2.3 and Opanda PowerExif 1.2 Professional Trial, but whilst they give me chapter aand verse on more parameters than I have ever heard of, I can't see 'shutter count' anywhere. Any thoughts folks?

Morning John, I've got about four various Opanda programs loaded up, and from memory only one of them gives the number of actuations.

Can you mail me an image with the exif data and I'll have a look (use the sjm@ mail addy if you still have it). If you can get this through in the next hour I'll have a look at lunch time, if not then tonight.

Cheers.

It's no go I afraid.

I tried various programs:

Opanda (multiple)

Irfanview (with exif plugin)

Kuso Exif

Photome

and none showed the number of shutter actuations. I can only suggest that is is either not included in the exif data, or is detailed in one of the untagged fields which do show up - although I could not see any figure which matched what you are suggesting.

The only other thing you could try is mailing an image to Panasonic support (it shows as a Panasonic exif).

Cheers.

My GUESS based on the very short time I owned the m4/3rds Panasonic, is that
he has taken One full card and 86 shots on a second card.

Looking at the numbers against my images -
on the first card I used, they started P1000001
and on the second card I used it was P1010001

Aha, I didn't think it might go by card (my Nikon just tonks from 0001-9999 and then makes a new folder, regardless of card).

It came with a 64Mb starter card which appeared completely clean. So maybe the seller bought a larger card for everyday use and kept it, and when I put the 64Mb card in it changed the folder...

Advert said 'I bought this duty free in Hong Kong but then was bought a digital SLR camera shortly after for my birthday, as a result this has been sitting almost unused (I have taken approximately ten pictures with it) in it's box, I am now putting it up for sale as someone should enjoy this beautiful camera! Everything is absolutely pristine...'

I have just been using a Canon 1D3 and was wondering about obtaining the Count info.

A field with the correect name shows up when using Kuso exif viewer and it has a number in it .... but the number never changes.

I think this quesiton is a bit like car odometers and what they show .... only more so.

Try Opanda (freeware), it works with Nikon DSLR's.

Nope, already tried that. Whether the Pro version might work I don't know. I read on a forum that Canon may have 'hidden' the information for all new bodies after the 1D2n to all but their service centres - but who knows whether that is fact or internet 'fact'. (I guess Canon people or their service centre people. But are they allowed to tell?)
